Mrs. Jans, 88, of Germany, died Nov. 25, 2006, in Germany. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Cyndie of Hazlet; a daughter and son-in-law, Eva and Al of Middletown; four grandchildren in the local area; and children and grandchildren in Germany. Kathleen Khalil
Mrs. Khalil, 52, of the Parlin section of Sayreville, died Dec. 25, 2006, at home following a lengthy illness. born in New Brunswick, she resided in Morgan prior to moving to Parlin 10 years ago. She was a window clerk at the U.S. Postal Service, Piscataway, for 26 years, retiring in 2001. She was a member of St. Bernadette’s Roman Catholic Church, Parlin. She was predeceased by her father, Gerald Hayden in 2000; and a brother, Robert O’Toole in 1991. She is survived by her husband, Mario; a daughter, Christine at home; her mother, Eleanor Hayden of Morgan; a brother, William O’Toole of Hazlet; a sister, Janet Nealon of Manahawkin; two nieces; and two nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Bernadette’s Church. Interment was at Christ Church Cemetery, South Amboy. Arrangements were by The Gundrum Service Home for Funerals, South Amboy. Michael J. Yuhas Jr.
Mr. Yuhas, 39, of the Cliffwood Beach section of Old Bridge, died Jan. 9, 2007, at home. Born in Red Bank, he resided in Matawan prior to relocating to Cliffwood Beach six years ago. He was a roofer at Local No. 4, Parsippany, the past 20 years. He served with the U.S. Army during peacetime. He is survived by his mother, Patricia Wilson Oxley of Cliffwood Beach; a daughter, Raycheal Yuhas of Cliffwood Beach; a son, Michael W. Yuhas of Cliffwood Beach; his grandmother, Eleanor Wilson of Union Beach; a brother, John Lewis of Matawan; and his fiancee, Rhonda Kuhn of Cliffwood Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. Interment was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
Edward F. Bulger
Mr. Bulger, 42, of Trenton, died Jan. 4, 2007, at home. born in Kearny, he resided in Union Beach prior to moving to Middletown. He was a seminarian at the Diocese of Trenton at Sacred Heart House for Priestly Formation. He was also attending Mercer County Community College. Prior to that, he was a manager at The Office, Keyport. He enjoyed fishing, and was an avid fan of the New York Giants, and the Notre Dame Fishing Irish football team. He was predeceased by his father, Clifford P. Bulger in 1993; his grandparents, Edward and Mildred Benedetto; and his grandfather, Paul Bulger. He is survived by his mother, Mildred Benedetto Bulger; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Paul and Barbara Bulger of Williamstown, and Dennis Bulger of Middletown; a sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and James Koenig of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown; his grandmother, Winifred Bulger of Forked River; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, North Middletown. Burial was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Edward R. Weickel
Mr. Weickel, 81, of Middletown, died Jan. 6, 2007, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. He was born in New York. Mr. Weickel was employed at Bell Laboratories in various locations, beginning in 1951. He retired from its education center in Holmdel in 1988. He was also a television producer of videos for its training promotions and documentary purposes. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in Italy during World War II. He was a member and usher at First Presbyterian Church at Red Bank-Tower Hill. He was an adjutant at American Legion Post No. 168, Red Bank, and helped organize Veterans Day and Independence Day celebrations with the town. He was an assistant scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 110, Lincroft section of Middletown, for 23 years, and served on the executive board of the Monmouth Council of Boy Scouts, Morganville, for 30 years. He was chairman of the National Veterans Committee. Mr. Weickel was predeceased by a brother, Raymond. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anne Timm-Weickel; a son, Edward Jr.; and a grandson. A funeral service was held at the First Presbyterian Church, followed by interment at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown. Arrangements were by Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank.
Warren B. “Bud” Minton Sr.
Mr. Minton, 84, of the Belford section of Middletown, died Jan. 4, 2007, at home. He was a lifelong resident of Red Bank, and relocated to Shrewsbury prior to moving to Belford eight years ago. He was a machinist at Fort Monmouth, Eatontown. He served with the U.S. Armed Forces from 1942-45 during World War II, and maintained top secret status during the war and for seven years thereafter. During the war, he worked on several projects and received two patents. He was a former instructor to New Jersey Police Academies certified by New Jersey Police Training Commission. He was a former member of the Shrewsbury Planning and Zoning Boards, as well as Council representative for the police and fire departments. He was a past associate member of the International Police Chief Association and New Jersey Police Chief Association. He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley in 1978. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Warren “Ben” and Lisa Minton Jr. of Jackson; three daughters, Janice and her husband Drew Muckley of Red Bank, Libby Andia Waterbury and her husband John of Shrewsbury, and Nancy Younghans of Marathon, Fla.; and nine grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Shrewsbury Presbyterian Church. Arrangements were by Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank.
Lawrence A. Downey Jr.
Mr. Downey, 65, of Keyport, died Jan. 5, 2007, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Newark, he resided in the Laurence Harbor section of Old Bridge, prior to relocating to Keyport in 1991. He was Supervisor of Roads and Bridge for Middlesex County for 30 years, retiring in 1996. He served with the U.S. Navy on the USS Waller during the Bay of Pigs. He was a member and Past Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Keyport; member of the Keyport American Legion; and member, Past Exalted Ruler, and New Jersey State Sergeant at Arms of the Keyport Elks. He was also a 25-year member of the Laurence Harbor First Aid Squad. He is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Sharon Downey of Ohio, and Michael and Kathy Downey of Howell; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Maryann and Michael McAndrew of Laurence Harbor, Roberta and Thomas Baxter of the Belford section of Middletown, and Lorraine and Roger Edley of Laurence Harbor; his former wife, Elizabeth “Ann” Downey of Delaware; his companion, Patricia Van Pelt of Keyport; and several nieces and nephews. Burial with military honors was at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
Madelyn E. Lasky Heinz
Mrs. Heinz, 79, of Keyport, died Jan. 8 at Raritan Bay Hospital, Old Bridge division. Born in Perth Amboy, she moved to Keyport 42 years ago. Mrs. Heinz was a dental assistant. She also had been an executive secretary for the U.S. Navy during World War II. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliaries of the Keyport Elks and Keyport Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4247. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas F. Heinz, in 1980. Mrs. Heinz is survived by a daughter, Tamara, and several cousins. The Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of arrangements.
John Chakamian
Mr. Chakamian, 75, of Red Bank, died Jan. 9, 2007, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he resided in Red Bank the past 39 years. He was employed at Bayshore Flood Control, Union Beach. Prior to that, he was a chemical engineer at Favorite Plastics, Brooklyn, N.Y. Mr. Chakamian served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Stepanos Armenian Church, Long Branch. He was a member of the Knights of Vartan and the Keyport American Legion. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jenev; two sons and daughters-in-law, John M. and Cindy Chakamian of Middletown, and Robert and Alyssa Chakamian of Sparta; a daughter and son-in-law, Sona and Glenn Markarian of Oradell; and four grandchildren. Ruth E. Benson Hector
Mrs. Hector, 70, of Keyport, died Jan. 17, 2007, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Newark, she resided there and the Laurence Harbor section of Old Bridge, prior to relocating to Keyport four years ago. She was a custodial worker at Matawan School District, for 12 years, retiring in 2002. She enjoyed recreation with friends at her Keyport apartment complex. She was predeceased by her husband Nicholas T. Hector Jr. in 2002. She is survived by two sons, Nicholas T. Hector III of Kearny, and Fredrick Hector of California; a daughter, Michelle Egoavil of Kearny; two brothers, John Benson of Edison, and William Benson of Virginia; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Interment was at Graceland Memorial Park, Kenilworth. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

Joseph F. Susino Sr.
Mr. Susino, 73, of Hazlet, died Jan. 9, 2007, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided in Queens, N.Y., before relocating to Hazlet 30 years ago. Mr. Susino was a baker and the owner of Normandy Bakery, Hazlet, retiring in 2001. He served with the U.S. Army as a corporal during the Korean War. He was a communicant of St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel, and a past member of the Holmdel Kiwanis. Mr. Susino is survived by his wife, Elizabeth McNally Susino; four children, Salvatore Susino of Neptune, Joseph Susino Jr., Patrick Susino and Elena Valentino, all of Hazlet; two brothers, Peter Susino and Frank Susino, both of Florida; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Benedict’s Church, followed by entombment at Marlboro Memorial Gardens. The Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of arrangements.
Rachel Cannella
Mrs. Cannella, 82, of Red Bank, died Jan. 12, 2007, at Care One at Wall. She was a lifelong resident of Red Bank. She was a sales associate at Annie Sez, Shrewsbury. She was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. She enjoyed bowling, knitting, and dancing. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald; and a sister, Josephine DePonte Thompson. Maryjane Grotyohann
Mrs. Grotyohann, 75, of Lakewood, died Jan. 14, 2007, at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. Born in Philadelphia, she resided in the Lincroft section of Middletown, prior to relocating to Lakewood eight years ago. She was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist, Red Bank. She enjoyed needle crafts, and quilting. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur G.; and a brother, Philip H. Lauer. She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Greg and Patty Grotyohann of Southern Shores, N.C., and Kurt Grotyohann of Freehold Township; a daughter, Beth DeMartino of Tinton Falls; a brother and sister-in-law, Theodore W. and Janice Lauer of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; and two granddaughters. George Leonard Moore
Mr. Moore, 77, of Middletown, died Jan. 15, 2007, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Queens, N.Y., he resided in Brooklyn, N.Y., prior to relocating to Middletown in 1971. He was an auditor for the Internal Revenue Service, Essex County. Prior to that, he was a vice president and controller at Midland Insurance Company, New York City, and in the insurance industry from 1947-85. He served with the U.S. Army attaining rank of Corporal at Fort Lewis, Wash., and The Presidio, San Francisco. He was a former member and industry representative of the Greater New York Council of Boy Scouts of America. He was a supporter of The Salvation Army. He was an avid New York Yankees fan, and enjoyed golf and cards. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Rudek Moore in 1985. He is survived by his companion of 17 years, Josephine Bromley; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Joyce, and Dennis and Clorinda; two daughters, Carolyn Moore and Pamela Moore; a brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Delores; a sister-in-law, Veronica Guariglia; a brother-in-law and his wife, Henry and Agnes Rudek; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Alonzo “Lonnie” S. Curchin Jr.
Mr. Curchin, 85, of Red Bank, died Jan. 18, 2007, at Meridian Health and Rehab, Red Bank. Born in Long Branch, he resided in Little Silver prior to relocating to Red Bank. He was a sergeant with the Red Bank Police Force for 26 years, retiring in 1973. He was also a security guard at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. He served with the U.S. Army as a surgical technician during World War II. He was a lifelong member of Embury Methodist Church, Little Silver. He was an exempt member of Relief Engine Company, Red Bank. He was an avid fisherman. He was predeceased by two brothers, Mortimer and Frank H. He is survived by a daughter, Pamela Curchin of the River Plaza section of Middletown; a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Priscilla of the Lincroft section of Middletown; a brother, Kenneth Curchin of Fair Haven; and a grandson.
