Americo Carneglia

   Americo "Rick" A. Carneglia, 83, of Kendall Park, died Friday, Jan. 26, at Saint Peter’s University Medical Center in New Brunswick.
   Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived there as a child and then moved to the Middlebush section of Franklin before moving to Kendall Park in 1941. He was also a part-time resident of Lynchburg, Va. He was a proud son of an Italian immigrant from the island of Ischia, close to Naples. He was a faithful man, belonging to St. Augustine of Canterbury R.C. Church in Kendall Park and to St. Thomas Moore R.C. Church in Lynchburg, Va. Before the completion of the current St. Augustine of Canterbury Church, Mass was frequently said at his childhood home.
   He was self-employed as the owner and operator of Carneglia & Sons Sunoco service station in Franklin Park. He also operated a family General Store also in Franklin Park. He enjoyed harvesting gems and was a member of Lynchburg Gem and Mineral Club. He also enjoyed bird watching, gardening and maintaining his family’s home.
   A son-in-law, Richard Thompson Doty, died in 2003. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Doris Snedeker Carneglia of Kendall Park; three children, Loretta Carneglia Doty of Lynchburg, Va., Rick Carneglia and his wife, Deborah, of Princeton and Annette Tate and her husband, Timothy A., of Richmond, Va.; two brothers; Michael Carneglia and his wife, Barbara, of New Jersey and Raymond Carneglia and his wife, Diane, of Florida, four sisters; Rose Varo and her husband, James, of Hightstown, Angelina Clark and her husband, Arthur, of Pa., Loretta Foster and her husband, Joseph "Bud", of Fla., and Mary Anne Groover and her husband, Charles, also of Fla.; and five grandchildren, Evan, April, Kimberly, Laura and Natalie.
   A funeral Mass took place Tuesday, Jan. 30, at St. Augustine of Canterbury R.C. Church in Kendall Park. Entombment followed at Franklin Memorial Park in North Brunswick. Arrangements were handled by the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton St., Somerset. There will also be a memorial service scheduled in Lynchburg, Va., at the convenience of the Carneglia family.
