Gertrude M. Burkhalter

   Gertrude M. Burkhalter, 86, died Saturday at her home.
   Born in Mercerville, she resided most of her life in Hopewell Township.
   She had retired in 1987 from the Mercer County Extension Service, where she had 43 years of service. At the time of her retirement she was senior clerk stenographer.
   She was an active member of the Pennington United Methodist Church, the Pennington Grange No. 64, for which she served as secretary, and Pomona Grange and New Jersey State Grange.
   Predeceased by her husband Earl in 1996 and daughter Betty Ann Hartel in 2003, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Constance Miller of Pennington; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and James Stanton of Ewing; a son-in-law, Walter K. Hartel of Pennington; five grandchildren, Brian (Lynne) and Mark (Barbara) Hartel of Hopewell Township, Karen Vandelli of South Portland, Maine, Sherri Stanton and her fiance Domenick Battista of Hillsborough, and Scott (Eileen) Stanton of Hopewell Township; eight great-grandchildren, Brian Jr., Jennifer, Michael and Mitchell Hartel, Elizabeth Verdelli, Kelty, James and Jack Stanton; two sisters-in-law, Irene Burkhalter of Trenton and Edna Weiss of Mercerville; a brother-in-law, Milton (Ethel) Burkhalter of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews and many friends.
   Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Pennington United Methodist Church, 60 S. Main St., Pennington. The Rev. James Hofacker, pastor, will officiate.
   Interment will be in Harbourton Cemetery.
   Relatives and friends may call on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Blackwell Memorial Home, 21 N. Main St., Pennington.
   In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Pennington United Methodist Church, 60 S. Main St., Pennington, 08534.
