Get involved in decision to operate trolley
By: Mae Rhine
The Greater New Hope Chamber of Commerce wants to hear from residents and business owners about whether to continue running its free trolley during the spring and summer.
We think it’s a great idea.
With parking at a premium, the trolley helped make life easier for shoppers and other tourists by picking up riders every 20 minutes in its 30-passenger bus from key locations in the borough from noon to 9 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday. It began on Labor Day and continued through Christmas.
The chamber was able to offer the trolley service free because of corporate sponsorships and paid advertisements on its red-and-green exterior.
The chamber is looking for people to serve on its Trolley Committee to discuss whether to keep the trolley running and how to make it financially feasible. You don’t have to be a member of the chamber to participate.
We think people should be involved in this decision. In addition, perhaps local businesses could kick in a few bucks to keep the trolley running. Businesses might reap their investment and then some from tourists using the service.
The committee will discuss finding more sponsors and consider whether to add more stops and increase the hours of operation if the decision is made to keep the trolley running.
Those interested should call (215) 862-9990 or send an e-mail to [email protected].
In addition, a downloadable map of trolley stops is available at www.NewHopeTrolley.com.
