David J. Craddock
BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP David J. Craddock, 81, died Monday at home.
He was a World War II veteran of the Merchant Marines serving in both the European and Pacific Conflicts. He was the chief executive officer of C. Pyramid Enterprises, a military construction firm in Columbus. He was also the founder and owner of several local businesses, Bordentown Sheetmetal Co., Construction LTD., G & C Enterprises Inc., C. Pyramid Enterprises Inc., and New Millennium, LLC.
He was also a part-time resident of his second house in Marathon, Fla. in the Florida Keys.
Son of the late John Craddock and Lydia Adele Craddock Whitaker and brother of the late Paul E. Craddock, he is survived by his wife, Shirley Stevenson Craddock of Bordentown Township; four sons, David P. Craddock of Bordentown Township, Clyde Craddock of Tampa, Fla., Mark Craddock and his spouse Christine of Chesterfield Township, and Wayne Craddock and his spouse Kathy of Bordentown Township; a daughter, Terry Messer of Eastampton; a sister, Adele Colligan of Burlington; nine grandchildren, Beth Craddock, Billy Messer and his wife Carol, Michael Craddock, Kristin Craddock, Wesley Messer, Christopher Craddock, Amy Messer, Ryan Craddock, and Cameron Craddock; two great-grandchildren, Dylan Messer and Chelsey Messer; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday from the Huber-Moore Funeral Home, 517 Farnsworth Ave., Bordentown.
Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation from 5 until 9 p.m. today, Thursday, and again from 10 a.m. Friday until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Yukie Higgins
FLORENCE Yukie Higgins (nee Sato), 75, of Florence Township, died Sunday at Lourdes Hospital in Willingboro.
Born and raised in Yokohama, Japan, she came to the United States in 1956, settling in Michigan.
Ms. Higgins lived in Florence Township for the last 31 years and was the wife of the late Harry Higgins. She was previously employed by NADE in Bordentown and the WaWa store on Route 130 in Florence. She enjoyed playing bingo, sewing, and crocheting.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nina Bell and Steven Gary of Detroit, Mich.; four grandchildren, Larita Bell, Anthony Gary, Paul Bell Jr., and Nicholas Bell; a great-grandson, Marlin Smith; a great-granddaughter, LaMarra Shaw; two sisters and a brother in Japan; nieces and nephews; and extended family, Patricia Giglio and Christina Giglio of Florence.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Dennison Funeral Home, 214 W. Front St., Florence.

Lester S. Sadler Jr.
MANSFIELD Lester S. Sadler Jr., 61, of Hedding, died Saturday at Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly.
He was born in Trenton and was a Bordentown area resident all of his life.
He was a graduate of William MacFarland High School Class of 1964. He then spent four years in the U.S. Navy after which he became a maintenance technician at the Kuser Village Apartments for 33 years.
Son of the late Lester S. Sadler Sr., he is survived by his wife, Barbara L. Sadler; a son, Timothy J. Sadler at home; his mother Virginia A. Sadler of Fieldsboro; a sister, Frances L. Sadler of Willingboro; a brother and sister-in-law, Kevin C. and Donna Sadler of Florence; two aunts, one uncle, two nieces and several cousins.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Huber-Moore Funeral Home, 517 Farnsworth Ave., Bordentown followed by cremation.
Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
Francis W. Mahon
BORDENTOWN Father Francis W. Mahon, 96, died Saturday.
Father Mahon was born and raised in Elizabeth, entered the Society of the Divine Word in the late 1920s, professed his religious vows in 1935 and was ordained to the priesthood on Aug. 15, 1940 in Techny, Ill.
His last assignment was to the Bordentown Divine Word Community where he spent 32 years in residence as the treasurer of the community.
Father Mahon retired from active pastoral ministry when he was 88 years old and had enjoyed the past years of peace and calm with the Bordentown Divine Word Community. Over the past two years he resided at St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center, Lawrenceville.
Son of the late Michael and Mary Brennan Mahon and brother of the late Ms. Anna Coakley of Elizabeth, Stephen Mahon of Williamstown, Leo Mahon of Elizabeth, Sarah Mahon of Elizabeth and Michael T. Murray of Point Pleasant, he was the uncle and great-uncle of many nephews and nieces.
A concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. today, Thursday, in St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 45 Crosswicks St., Bordentown.
Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
A visitation will be from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. today, Thursday, at St. Mary Church.

Gary H. Olaff
FLORENCE Gary H. Olaff, 57, of Florence died Saturday at Samaritan Inpatient Hospice in Mount Holly.
Born in Bayonne, he lived in Florence all of his life.
Some of his hobbies included billiards and woodworking.
Son of the late Doris Stanley Olaff, he is survived by his wife, Pamela Barota Olaff; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Monica Olaff and Dennis and Christina Olaff, all of Florence; two daughters and sons-in-law, Heather and Raymond McGough and Tanya and Michael Neylan, of Roebling; his father, Eughene Olaff of Florence; his brother, Gene Olaff of Burlington Township; and seven grandchildren, Andrew McGough, Lacey and Jordan Olaff, Hannah and Ryan Olaff, and Jacob and Madison Neylan.
The funeral was held Wednesday from the Dennison Funeral Home, 214 W. Front St., Florence, with the Rev. John Orr, pastor of the Florence United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment was in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Burlington.

Esther M. Buck
FLORENCE Esther M. Buck (nee Foulks), 76, of Florence died Friday at Samaritan Inpatient Hospice in Mount Holly.
Born in Florence, Ms. Buck was a lifelong resident. She retired almost six years ago as a lead person in the packing and shipping department of Simon and Schuster Publishing Co. in Delran after 40 years of service.
She formerly attended the First Wesleyan Church of Florence, was a member of the Florence American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 194, and enjoyed occasional trips to Atlantic City.
Daughter of the late William and Alice Cheesman Foulks, wife of the late Elmer (Beetle) Buck and sister of the late Vivien (Ditty) Rapciewicz, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Dawne Buck, with whom she lived; two grandchildren, Joyce Buck and Duane Buck and wife Melissa, all of Burlington; two sisters, Thelma Tapper of Del. and Phyllis Brown of Roebling; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held Monday at the Dennison Funeral Home, 214 W. Front St., Florence, with the Rev. Philip V. Loria officiating.
Interment was in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Florence.

William M. DeVuono
FLORENCE William M. DeVuono of Roebling, who would have turned 76 on Monday, died Feb. 1 at Samaritan Inpatient Hospice in Mount Holly.
Born in Philadelphia, Pa., Mr. DeVuono lived in the Bordentown-Roebling area for the last 30 years.
He retired 12 years ago as the proprietor of the Roebling Deli, which he owned for several years. He was very active in many political, civic and charitable organizations in Bordentown and Florence Township over the years.
The seventh of 10 children born to his late mother, Anna DeVuono, he is the brother of the late James, Frank, Anna, Jeanette, Doris and Catherine. He is survived by his wife, Debbie Allibone DeVuono; sons, Michael, Stephen and Joseph and daughter Tina Morrison and their mother, Violet DeVuono, all of Pa.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Lewis DeVuono of Ariz., Henry DeVuono of Pa. and Joseph DeVuono of Fla.; stepsons, Thomas and Robert, both of Fla.; ten step-grandchildren; and a cousin, Harry Chile.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Dennison Funeral Home, 214 W. Front St., Florence, with the Rev. Felix Venza, pastor of St. Clare’s Church in Florence, officiating.
Interment was in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Burlington.

Doris A. Paykos
ROEBLING Doris A. Paykos, 84, of Roebling, died Feb. 1 in Virtua Health and Rehabilitation Center, Lumberton Township.
Ms. Paykos was born in Roebling, daughter of the late George and Mary Sapik Selenak, and resided in Roebling lifelong.
She was a retired Switch Board Operator, employed by Farmers and Mechanics Bank and the Chamberlain Corporation, both of Burlington, with many years of service. During World War II, she was also a switch board operator at Fort Dix.
Ms. Paykos was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Roebling, where she was a former trustee, choir member, Sunday school teacher, and building fund committee member. She was also a member of the Methodist Women’s Organization, Willitts Hogan Tonne American Legion Unit 39, Roebling Historical Society, and former member and past president of the Roebling School #5 PTA.
She along with her family maintained the Methodist church buildings and grounds with much pride for over 20 years. She also enjoyed spending time visiting and taking the church news to the members of the congregation who were confined to home.
Predeceased by her husband, Steve Paul Paykos, she is survived by her son and his fiancée, Paul Paykos and Nancy Sovak of Roebling; son and daughter-in-law, Dana and Denise Paykos of Westampton; grand daughter and spouse, Alisa Paykos-Theure and Ensign Mark Theurer of Norfolk, Va.; granddaughter, Marissa Paykos of Westampton; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Irene and John Maher of Delanco; sister-in-law, Ella McDermott of Florence; sister-in-law, Janet Griffith of Florence; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held Monday at Koschek and Porter Funeral Directors, 1115 Hornberger Ave., Roebling, with the Rev. Dr. Dwight Sweezy officiating.
Interment was in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Florence.

Pearl Bucs
FLORENCE Pearl Bucs, 89, a lifelong resident of Roebling and Florence, died Feb. 1 at home.
Ms. Bucks was born in Roebling, daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Bogdanyi Lukacs.
She was a member of Holy Assumption Catholic Church and its Altar Rosary Society, Willitts Hogan Tonne American Legion Unit 39, and John A. Roebling Senior Cicitzens.
She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe with her late husband and family in later years. She was a person of independence. Even in her late 70s and 80s, she was the aerobic instructor for the Florence Senior Citizens. Puttering in her yard and gardening were also enjoyable activities, but she most enjoyed spending time with her family.
Predeceased by her husband, James Bucs Sr., brother, Joseph Lukacs and sister, Elizabeth DeMattio, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Darrell Lease of Roebling; son and daughter-in-law, James II and Elaine Bucs of Pemberton Borough; daughter, Roseann Simpkins of Florence; two sisters, Elsie Bucs of Hershey, Pa. and Rose Volsckai of Hedding; 11 grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer and Shawn, David and Tracy, Robin and Andrew, Joseph and Christiana, Kristin and Joshua, Allison, Ian and Amy, Alleah and Drew, Erin and Jacob, Christa, and Michael; 18 great-grandchildren, Charity, Natalie, Brett, Andie, Skyler, Ariana, Gianna, Gillian, Cooper, Ian, Emily, Gavin, Olivia, Ava, Ashley, Rachel, Mia, and Thomas; and many nieces and nephews.

Paul J. Mitchell
SPRINGFIELD Paul J. "Mitch" Mitchell, 75, died Jan. 31 at Vitas Hospice Unit of St. Agnes’ Medical Center, Philadelphia.
Born in Trenton, Mr. Mitchell lived most of his life as a Trenton resident.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served onboard the USS Ashland in the Pacific Fleet. He retired in 1999 after 43 years of service with the Congoleum Corporation of Hamilton Township.
He was a member and secretary of the United Steel Worker’s, Trenton Local until his retirement. He supported the Habitat for Humanity program as well as St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. He was a former member of the Burlington Moose Lodge. Mr. Mitchell enjoyed home gardening as well as being an avid American history buff.
Son of the late Paul and Sophie Miciewicz Katona, brother of the late Sue Klidzia, Helen Carney and Patricia Sakiey, he is survived by four sons and two daughters-in-law, Lawrence P. and Robin Mitchell of Springfield, with whom he recently resided, Paul W. and Alice Mitchell of Palm Beach, Fla,, Mark A. Mitchell of Delanco and Alan F. Mitchell of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren, Paul, Jason, Diane, Rhianna, Justin and Matthew; four sisters, Eleanor, Michelina, Louise and Alice; four brothers, Raymond, Jim, Francis and Tom; and many nieces and nephews.
Service of Remembrance was celebrated Monday at the Winowicz Funeral Chapel, 865 Brunswick Ave., North Trenton.
Final Commendation services will then be conducted onboard a U.S. Navy ship somewhere off the Eastern seaboard with casketed burial at sea services being committed into the Atlantic Ocean at a future time and day.

Anthony Pepponi
FLORENCE Anthony "Tony" Pepponi, 85, formerly of Florence, died Jan. 28 at Virtua Hospital in Mount Holly.
Born in Florence, he lived in Burlington before returning to the Roebling-Florence area where he lived most of his life.
Mr. Pepponi retired in 1985 as a quality control inspector for General Motors Corp. in Ewing after 11 years of service. Prior to this, he worked at the CF&I Corp. in Roebling for 30 years.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a recipient of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
He was a longtime member of the Roebling VFW Post 8838 where he served as the Bar Committee Chairman for many years. HE was a member of the UAW Union and enjoyed all kinds of sports on TV, and doing carpentry work.
One of his favorite joys was in the summertime, sitting on the porch bench admiring the flower and vegetable gardens while pending time with his grandson, whom he called "Chi Chi Boy."
Predeceased by a sister, Elsie (Larry) Zielinski, Mr. Pepponi is survived by his daughter, Lori Jean Pepponi of Columbus; a grandson, Jacob; brother Chester (Dora) Pepponi of Burlington; nephews, Chester (Joann) Pepponi and Thomas (Lucianna) Zielinski; a niece, Marianne Bishop of Roebling, and a special friend, Steve Manetas.
The funeral was held Friday at the Dennison Funeral Home, 214 W. Front St., Florence.
Interment was in the Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown.

Jerome A. Urken
LANGHORNE, Pa. Dr. Jerome A. Urken, 83, died Friday at the residence of his daughter in New York City.
He was a dentist for over 40 years.
Born in Trenton, Dr. Urken was a former resident of Moorestown and Princeton. He was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and its School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Urken’s practice was in Bordentown City. In 1996, he was the recipient of the Alumni Award of Merit from Penn Dental School.
He was a member of Greenacres Country Club, Trenton Historical Society, former president of the Bordentown Rotary, a trustee of the Doane Academy- St. Mary’s Hall, and was a veteran of World War II serving as a captain in the Army Medical Corp.
Son of the late Harry and Gertrude, brother of the late Shirley Miller and husband of the late Gertrude Kessler Urken, he is survived by his wife Marilyn Foreman Urken; a son and daughter-in-law Dr. Mark and Laura Urken; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Dr. Roy Geronemus and Joan and Mark Zimmett all of New York City; two step-children, Lisa Steinberg and her husband Larry and Marla Sable; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, 1534 Pennington Road, Ewing Township.
Burial followed at Greenwood Cemetery.
The period of mourning was observed at the Urken residence in Langhorne, Pa.

Robert D. Johnson
HAMILTON Robert D. "Bud" Johnson, 60, died Sunday at home.
Born in Fort Knox, Ky., he had been a resident of Hamilton since 1985.
He made his career and retired with the U.S. Army, after having served in many countries. He was a drill instructor for five years at Fort Knox, Ky., and because he had such dedication to his country, he helped shape many men into soldiers.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion. Bud was an avid sportsman. He coached his sons in many sports, and also coached and played on his Army teams. Upon retirement, he began officiating softball and basketball throughout central New Jersey. He belonged to the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials (IAABO), and the American Softball Association (ASA).
Son of the late Buster and Willie Bee Johnson, he is survived by his wife Jo Ann (Richardson) Johnson; his daughter Dora Johnson of Bordentown; two sons, Vincent Thurmond of Robbinsville and Robert D. Johnson Jr. of Browns Mills; three sisters, Deloris Dodson of Bartlett, Tenn., Theresa Clark of Kensington, Md., and Sharon Kay Lake of Memphis, Tenn.; his brother, Michael Johnson of Maury City, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Tyler Johnson Thurmond and Declan Joseph Thurmond of Robbinsville, Robert D. Johnson III of Browns Mills, Maria and Ramon Regueira, and Robert Guarino, all of Bordentown; many nieces and nephews, and special friends who supported him through his illness.
The funeral service will be held 9:30 a.m. Friday from the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square with the Rev. R. Wesley Tink officiating.
Interment will follow in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.

Elizabeth Sabo Vannozzi
TRENTON – Elizabeth R. "Betty" Sabo Vannozzi, 91, died Sunday at the Royal Health Gate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Trenton.
Born in Trenton, she was a lifelong area resident.
She was a former member of St. Stephen’s Church.
Mrs. Vannozzi was the wife of the late Paul J. Vannozzi Sr. and was the sister of the late Joseph Sabo and Margaret Timko. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Paul J. and Alice M. Vannozzi Jr. and David J. Vannozzi all of Columbus; one granddaughter and her husband, Joy and David Holsneck of New Egypt; one grandson and his wife, Paul and Theresa Vannozzi III of Hamilton; four great-granddaughters, Nicole E. Morris of Hamilton, Kayla M., Olivia L. and Morgan T. Holsneck all of New Egypt, and one brother-in-law, John Timko of Burlington.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Rogers Funeral Home, 825 Chambers St., Trenton.
Burial was in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Hamilton.
Frank A. McBride
BROWNS MILLS – Frank A. McBride, 88, died Saturday at Samaritan Hospice Center in Mount Holly.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a resident of Browns Mills for 44 years.
He was very proud of his service in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served from 1943 to 1946 and saw action in France, Germany and Austria with the 121st Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron.
He was employed as a carpenter at the 305th Civil Engineering Squadron, McGuire Air Force Base, retiring in 1994. He continued his love of woodworking and particularly enjoyed making things for his grandchildren.
Son of the late Henry McBride and Anna Franz, he was predeceased by his two brothers Harry and William (Whoopie). He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marian; two sons and a daughter, John and Donna McBride of Chesterfield, Frank and his fiancee Joanne Wall of Brick and Patricia and Robert Robertson of Browns Mills; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Frank A. McBride IV and his wife Heather of McGuire AFB and their children Rhiannon and Shaughn, Craig McBride and his companion Secret McMillan of Browns Mills and his two sons Craig and Calaen, Erin Bice of Red Bank and her husband Scott, Nicholas McBride of Browns Mills and his fiancee Amanda Costain, John P. McBride of Chesterfield, Courtney McBride of Browns Mills and Shannon and Dylan Robertson of Browns Mills.
Interment was a family-only ceremony Tuesday at the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.

James J. Zotta
MORRISVILLE, Pa. James J. Zotta, 67, died Friday in Saint Mary’s Medical Center, Langhorne, Pa.
Born in Trenton, he resided in Morrisville, Pa. for the past 22 years.
Mr. Zotta retired in 1997 after 23 years as an iron worker with the Ironworkers and Riggers Local No. 68, Hamilton Township. He enjoyed fishing and going to antique car shows with his antique cars.
Son of the late Joseph and Grace Johnson Zotta, he is survived by his wife, Elaine M. Koval Zotta; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa A. and Joseph Yaros of Hamilton Township, Judith and Anthony Damiano of Langhorne, Pa., and Jamie and Rob Goleniecki of Bordentown; a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and George Stapish of Calif.; and 12 grandchildren, Anthony, Gianni, Ariana, Giuliano, Valentino, Armani, and Sante’ Damiano, Nicole and Noelle Yaros, and Makenza, Aaron and Gabriella Guleniecki; his special dog "Roxy"; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

YARDVILLE Julia Nemes Holzbaur, 84, died Feb. 1 at St. Francis Compassionate Care Hospice in Trenton.

Holzbaur, she is survived by a daughter, Julie Holzbaur of Amesbury, Mass.; a brother, Charles Nemes of Barnegat and Fla,; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Helen Lahutsky of Bordentown Township and Mary and Joseph Sabo of Butler, Pa.; three sisters-in-law, Margaret Nemes, Rose Holzbaur and Sally Holzbaur; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held Tuesday from the Buklad Yardville Memorial Chapel, 30 Yardville-Allentown Road in Yardville with Rev. John Milne, pastor of United Presbyterian Church officiating.
Burial followed in Colonial Memorial Park in Hamilton.
