DIVING

Danica Roskos repeated as champion in the Mercer County Diving Championships last Wednesday.
The Hopewell Valley Central High School sophomore is looking forward to representing the Bulldogs in the NJSIAA state championships on Feb. 27.
Roskos was ineligible for the state competition last year when she dove for Hun and competed for the prep school at the Eastern Championships.
She still excelled at the county level and set the county record last year with a score of 284.8.
This year, however, a change in her club diving teams has left the Hopewell Valley sophomore a little out of practice.
"I haven’t been diving as much," said Roskos saying she just got back into it with new coaches Fred and Lesley Woodruff. "I did all my dives to the best of my ability."
Even though she didn’t match her record performance, Roskos still led her competition by over 80 pionts.
Roskos scored 257.6 the second-place diver scored 176.45.
"My best dive was my front twist," said Roskos. "My front two-and-a-half is my favorite. I did pretty well in it. It’s an easier dive for me, even though it has a larger degree of difficulty."
Roskos had several dives with higher degrees of difficulties and she scored well in thoughs to help keep her ahead of the Notre Dame diver.
Roskos said she didn’t really expect to do as well as she did, given her change in diving programs.
"I really just tried to dive the best that I could," said Roskos. "There’s a lot of talented girls."
