JAMESBURG J.P. Morgan Chase, of Jersey City, has gotten the OK to begin construction of a new Chase Bank on East Railroad Avenue.
The borough Land Use Board voted 8-0 to approve the 5,096-square-foot bank Feb. 8.
The bank will be built on a 1.55-acre site formerly occupied by Johnathan’s Grille.
The plans call for the existing structure to be torn down and a one-story bank with four drive-through tellers to be built in its place.
The original plans also called for the bank to have only one driveway that would be realigned with Forsgate Drive and for the three-way traffic light at the corner of Forsgate Drive and East Railroad Avenue to be made into a four-way light, allowing customers to enter and exit the bank safely.
However, the final plans now leave the two existing driveways as is and call for them to allow only right turns out of the parking lot.
In order to construct the building, J.P. Morgan Chase needed a waiver to allow it to build only 33 parking spaces for the bank 48 would have been required and a bulk variance to allow the driveway to be set back less than 20 feet from the intersection.
