NJDOT to resurface I-95 in Mercer County

Project set to start March 5

Commissioner Kris Kolluri has announced that the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will begin resurfacing I-95 northbound and southbound in the townships of Ewing, Hopewell and Lawrence in Mercer County on March 5.
"This resurfacing project will improve I-95 by eliminating existing potholes and cracks and providing a safer and smoother roadway," noted Commissioner Kolluri. "Performing construction at night allows NJDOT to deliver a brand-new roadway surface without impacting traffic."
The $19 million project will resurface all travel lanes and shoulders of I-95 from milepost 0.2 to milepost 2.3 and from milepost 3.35 to the Route 1 interchange at milepost 8.77.
NJDOT also will resurface the entrance and exit ramps at each interchange on I-95, excluding the reconstructed Interchange 3 (Scotch Road) in Hopewell Township. The newly resurfaced roadway will provide a safer driving surface than the existing roadway, which is deteriorated, and will extend its lifespan by 15-20 years.
Construction will take place from 9 p.m.-5:30 a.m. in order to mitigate traffic impacts on I-95. The ramp repaving work will require periodic nightly closures of these ramps. NJDOT will provide advance notice and detour routes prior to each ramp closure. The resurfacing project is scheduled to be completed by mid-November 2007.
NJDOT is working with the State Police to maintain safe conditions for workers and motorists in the construction zone. NJDOT will install two Variable Message Signs (VMS) for the duration of mainline work, on I-95 northbound and southbound, prior to the start of work on the project to inform motorists of any change in traffic patterns during nighttime operations.
