The school board election picture became clearer as candidates filed petitions by Monday’s 4 p.m. deadline to run in the April 17 contest. Following is a look at who filed in each local district:
Millstone
Millstone Township will face uncertainty as only two candidates have filed for three open three-year seats.
The two first-time candidates are Margaret Gordon, of Millstone Road, and Dorren Beaumont, of Disbrow Hill Road. Not seeking re-election this year are Kathy Winecoff, Gina Morrone and Sami Qutub.
The board will wait to see if the election brings any write-in candidates for the third seat. If it does not, the board will advertise for candidates to fill the vacancy. The board then would interview the candidates and make a selection. That person then would serve on the board until the next election, at which point he or she would need to run for re-election, said Brian Boyle, assistant superintendent of business and board secretary.
Plumsted
In Plumsted, there are four candidates for two available seats on the board.
The only incumbent is Katherine McCaughey, of Oakford Avenue in New Egypt. She will be running against first-time candidates Richard Brevogel, of Hemlock Drive, and Lawrence Downs, of Teakwood Court, as well as Anthony O’Donnell, of Kenyon Drive, who ran in 2005 but did not win. Albert Petroni will not be seeking re-election.
Upper Freehold Regional
In the Upper Freehold Regional School District, a one-year unexpired term and a three-year term are available for Allentown, and two three-year seats are available for Upper Freehold.
Elizabeth Trent, of South Main Street, is looking to fill the unexpired term in Allentown for one year, while Douglas Anthony, of Hendrickson Way, will run unopposed for the open three-year Allentown term.
Three candidates are vying for the two open Upper Freehold seats. Joseph Calvitti, Jr., of Walnford Road; Kenneth Caitano, of Dutchess Road; and Patricia Hogan, of Liberty Court, all are running for the first time. Jeanette Bressi and Stephen Murphy are not seeking re-election.
Washington
In Washington Township, four candidates filed for three available seats.
Current board President David Pethybridge, of Compton Circle, is seeking re-election. Michael Reca, also of Compton Circle, replaced Patrick Foti last year and will seek to be elected to a three-year board position this year. The incumbents will face challenges from first-time candidates Thomas Halm Jr., of Garden Place, and Lainie Potter, of Burnet Crescent. Ray Hart will not be seeking re-election.
