JAMESBURG — The Borough Council lost a member Wednesday night when it announced that Carlos Morales had handed in his resignation.
"We’re going to miss him," Mayor Anthony LaMantia said. "He helped us a whole lot around the town."
According to Borough Clerk Gretchen McCarthy, Mr. Morales’ party, the Democrats, have 15 days from Tuesday — when Mr. Morales’ letter of resignation was filed — to submit a list of three possible replacements to the Borough Council. The council has 15 days from then to select a replacement. If the Democrats do not submit a list, the council would appoint someone to fill the vacancy.
Whoever is chosen as a replacement will serve the remaining two years of Mr. Morales’ term.
Mr. Morales was first elected to the council in 2002. In 2005, he was elected to a second three-year term.
Mr. Morales is a member of the New Jersey National Guard who served in the Iraq war. He was deployed Sept. 11, 2006, and returned Jan. 24, 2007.
Mr. Morales did not return calls from The Cranbury Press.
