MONROE The Chabad Jewish Center will hold a Purim party Sunday at 3 p.m. at Jamesburg Elks on West Railroad Avenue.
Rabbi Eliezer Zaklikovsky said the party would begin with the reading of the Megillah, or the Purim story, from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., at which point the party would begin.
He said there would be food, drink, music and a comedian at the party. He also said there would be speakers on hand to discuss what it was like to celebrate Purim in Eastern Europe 70 to 80 years ago.
"The joy that we experience on Purim allows us to attain a higher level in our own personal growth because when you’re happy, you’re able to overcome boundaries that normally exist," Rabbi Zaklikovsky said.
There also will be a Purim service held at the Chabad Jewish Center on Gravel Hill Road on Saturday at 7 p.m.
