Ron Zilinski, the chief financial officer, treasurer and tax collector for the township for the last five years will be leaving for another post in Trenton, effective March 9.
"It’s going to be an interesting challenge," Mr. Zilinski said. "I live there already. I did auditing prior to this, worked for the City of Trenton as the city comptroller between 1979 and 1985."
He said his new job will be a very close to his home and a very different challenge.
"Here it’s hands on," Mr. Zilinski said of his position in Hillsborough. "There, I’ll be doing an overview with a new computer system."
He said his commute of 45 minutes to an hour each way will be eliminated but he will miss the local people.
"Of all the jobs I’ve had, this is the best job I’ve had," Mr. Zilinski said. "Everybody here is so cooperative. We have a real good camaraderie here. It’s really been a pleasure to work here. I have mixed feeling about leaving. It’s got to be nice to be closer to home, but it’s going to be a different challenge."
Township Administrator Kevin Davis said on Wednesday that Mr. Zilinski has been valuable in his service for the township. "I think that we’re going to miss Ron Zilinski," Mr. Davis said. "He has been very important for the finances in Hillsborough and will be hard to replace."
Mr. Davis said the search for a replacement has not yet begun, although the Township Committee did pass an ordinance on Tuesday night that will allow Deputy Treasurer Nancy Haberle to act as the CFO in the meanwhile.
Subsequently, the township’s ordinance will also allow the township to name an acting deputy treasurer in the event that their current deputy treasurer is named as the acting CFO.
