The Manville schools are hoping to stock the libraries with some new books from proceeds of a fundraising spaghetti dinner at the VFW scheduled for April 20.
All four schools, Weston Elementary School, Roosevelt Elementary School, Alexander Batcho Intermediate School and Manville High School, will be using the money to purchase new books for their libraries.
"All of the libraries could use updated reading material," Stephanie Cornelson, Roosevelt’s Parent and Teacher Association president said. "We will also have tables set up at the dinner in case someone would like to purchase and donate a book that night."
The dinner planning committee is looking for food donations.
Ms. Cornelson said if nothing is donated, the food will be bought and taken out of the money brought in.
"The VFW will be cooking the food for us and Manville Education Foundation members, along with PTA members and high school students will be responsible for set up, clean up and serving," Ms. Cornelson said.
Ms. Cornelson said many of the books in the libraries are outdated, especially the reference material.
"School budgets have been very tight lately and there hasn’t been a lot of money to spend on any of the school’s libraries," she said. "I think it’s great that different organizations in the Manville community (MEF and the PTAs) are working together for such a great cause."
Tickets for the dinner can be purchased at all the schools and will be $5 each and children 3 years old and younger are free.
Tickets can also be purchased from Ed Komoroski, the owner of Central Jersey Realty in Manville, who is also helping to organize the dinner.
The event is sponsored by the Manville Education Foundation and Weston, Roosevelt and ABIS PTAs will be assisting with the planning, promoting and finding volunteers.
"We will be asking high school students to help us the night of the event," Ms. Cornelson said.
   The dinner will be from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. April 20.
