BORDENTOWN CITY

   Bordentown City Police are accepting applications for school crossing guards. Applications can be picked up at the Police Station, 324 Farnworth Ave., in the rear of the building. Position ideal for mothers with children in school, retired folks or anyone looking to pick up a few extra dollars.
FLORENCE

   At 5:43 p.m. on March 5, Samantha Bartosh, 18, of Roebling, was charged with obstruction of justice, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of alcohol by a minor.
   Police said they had responded to a report of suspicious activity in a vehicle parked on Main Street and Eighth Avenue. Police said Ms. Bartosh left the vehicle against police orders and attempted to go into a house in the area. When police stopped her, they reported that she was carrying alcohol in a clear glass bottle and police smelled alcohol on her breath. Two baggies containing suspected marijuana and a hand-rolled cigar containing what appeared to be marijuana were also found in her coat and a razor knife used for processing marijuana, police said. She was released on her own recognizance.

   On March 4, at 10:15 p.m., Justin Leiser, 25, of Florence, was charged with theft and contempt of court, and Joseph Millerline, 24, of Florence, was charged with contempt of court.
   Police said they received a report of two people siphoning gas from a car on the 400 block of West Third Street. Upon investigation, police said they found two individuals matching the description the caller gave them, and found that approximately 5 gallons of gas had been siphoned.
   Police said a warrant check revealed that both Mr. Leiser and Mr. Millerline had warrants out of Trenton for failure to appear for a court date. Neither man was able to post bail and both were turned over to Trenton Police Department, police said.

   On Feb. 28, at 6:43 p.m., James M. Powers, 32, of Maple Shade, was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, speeding, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.
   Police said they stopped a 1991 Chevrolet pickup truck on East Front Street for a speeding violation. Police said they smelled burnt marijuana coming from the truck and found a baggie with a small amount of the drug on the floor of the vehicle, and five burnt cigarettes were found, along with a pack of rolling papers.
   Mr. Powers was released pending a court appearance.

   On Feb. 27, at 9:10 p.m., Lawrence D. Smith, 42, of Burlington. was charged with burglary, theft, and attempted theft of a motor vehicle.
   Police said they noticed the front door was open at Van Huff Motors after hours on Route 130. An investigation revealed that the business had been burglarized, police said, and officers found that a rear window had been broken, the front door had been damaged and the office ransacked.
   The owner arrived and stated that an air compressor and battery jump pack, as well Hershey’s candy bar miniatures, had been stolen from desk, police said.
   While police were there, another man stopped and stated that a man in his early 40s wearing blue jeans had tried to steal a car from his business, located on Route 130 South, approximately half a mile from Van Huff Motors, and that he had been on Route 130 looking for the thief, police said.
   Surrounding police departments and NJ Transit were notified, and NJ Transit told Florence police that a person fitting the description was on the train platform located at John Galt Way, according to police.
   Police said when they arrived, Mr. Smith was sitting on a bench with the air compressor and the battery jump pack in his possession. He was also found to have Hershey’s candy bars in his pocket, police said.
   Mr. Smith was charged with burglary and theft for $7,500 bail, and for attempted theft of a car for $7,500 bail. He was lodged in Burlington County Jail in default of $15,000 bail.
