Hopewell Valley sophomore Danica Roskos finished in third-place at the NJSIAA Girls’ Diving Championships Feb. 27 at The College of New Jersey.
"I think I did pretty well," said Roskos. "The competition was pretty fierce. It was a bunch of Junior Olympic divers."
Roskos came in third with a score of 4:05.95, not far behind the leaders. Kinnelon’s Sarah Andrekovich won the girls’ state high school diving championship with a score of 411.95, while Shawnee’s Kara Kosowski took second with a score of 409.30.
Roskos, who transferred from the Hun School of Princeton to Hopewell Valley Central High School, said she was excited to compete in the state meet.
While this was the first time the sophomore diver was eligible to compete in the NJSIAA event, Roskos was familiar with many of the divers. A few were current or former teammates and friends the Bulldog has competed with and against in Junior Olympic diving events.
Roskos had several strong dives en route to her third-place finish, but liked her front, two-and-a-half pike the best.
"The scores weren’t too great for it," said Rosksos, "but it’s my favorite dive."
Roskos won the Mercer County Diving Championships earlier this year.
Now that she has placed well in her two high school diving competitions, Roskos is gearing up for the Junior Olympic Regional Championships at the end of the month.
"I just tried to do my best," said Roskos. "Every meet teaches you something. It teaches you how to compete against different divers."
