AROUND CRANBURY: Craft show returns

The Cranbury Craft Show is just around the corner, this weekend in fact.

By: Lorraine Sedor
The 10th annual Cranbury Craft Show will be at the Cranbury School on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Cranbury Education Foundation, sponsor of the show, has brought 10 years of beautiful, quality handcrafted items to town, with all proceeds benefiting school improvements.
Since its inception, the show has raised more than $100,000 and, according to organizer Deanna Anderson, "Every penny has been spent improving our school for the students, staff and community." Proceeds from this year’s show will be used to purchase new lighting for the school auditorium.
Admission to the show is $4 for adults, $2 for senior citizens and $1 for children younger than 14. As a free service, children can spend time in the adult-supervised Children’s Center playing and making crafts while their parents shop.
The Cranbury Craft Show is a juried show featuring more than 100 artisans from the Northeast. The crafts will include clothing, pottery, jewelry, photography and much more. The show will exhibit past crafters and many new artisans.
Cranbury’s downtown merchants are collaborating with the Cranbury Education Foundation to support the show. With paid admission to the show, Charmed by Claire, Piped Piper Kids and Patina Home are offering customers $5 off purchases of $25 or more. All three stores will be open Saturday and Sunday to accommodate show patrons.
Breakfast and lunch will be available during the show. Drawings will be held throughout the day to win baskets donated by the crafters.

On Saturday, there will be a spaghetti dinner to benefit the medical expenses of Cranbury resident Rob Diano, who was injured in a car accident in December. Friends, neighbors, Scouts and his fellow Scout leaders are pitching in to put together a great meal.
Dinner will be served in the 1st Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The requested donation is $15 per person, plus a dessert to share.
If you cannot attend but wish to make a donation, you can make checks out to Boy Scout Troop 52 and send them to Mrs. Diana Joseph-Riley at 18 Prospect St., Cranbury, NJ 08512.

The Cranbury Recreation Department is thinking spring with programs and trips to bring seniors together for fun and fitness!
Seats are still available for the March 21 bus trip to the Grand Chalet in Wayne, NJ to enjoy a luncheon theatre show entitled "America’s Sweethearts." The show is a musical story of the careers of Jeannette McDonald and Nelson Eddy, the most celebrated singing couple in movie history. The Recreation Department is subsidizing the transportation costs, so the fee for the seniors is $39.50.
The first session of the Senior Tai Chi class was so successful that a second session will begin on Tuesday, March 27. Classes will be conducted by June Counterman at the United Methodist Church in Cranbury. The cost for the eight-week course is $25.
Finally, seniors are invited to dance their way to better fitness with faculty from the American Repertory Ballet’s Princeton Ballet School. An eight-week dance sampler will introduce various styles of dance and exercise, including yoga, Pilates, modern dance and ballet exercise and more. A partner is not needed to enjoy this opportunity to explore new ways to move. Classes will begin on Wednesday, March 28 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the Princeton Ballet School’s Cranbury Studio. The cost is $50.
Registration forms for all senior recreation programs are available at Town Hall or online at www:cranburytownship.org/forms.
