WEST WINDSOR — The CompUSA computer and electronics store in Nassau Park shopping center is being closed as part of a restructuring by its corporate parent.
The West Windsor store is one of a total of 126 stores that will be closed by CompUSA Inc. over the next 60 to 90 days, according to an announcement issued from CompUSA’s corporate headquarters in Dallas. Four stores have already been closed, according to the company.
Yesterday, the Nassau Park store had signs posted announcing the store closing and an attendant sale. The store’s general manager, who requested that his name not be used, said he could give no details about the closing, including when the store’s final day would be and how many employees were affected.
"Unfortunately the company made the decision, it’s not my decision," he said.
Approximately eight employees could be observed at the store at mid-day.
"Based on changing conditions in the consumer retail electronics market, the company identified the need to close and sell stores with low performance or non strategic, old store layouts and locations faced with market saturation," stated Roman Ross, CompUSA chief executive officer, in a release.
According to the release, CompUSA will receive a $440 million cash capital infusion to improve its balance sheet as part of implementing the "realignment strategy." CompUSA will continue to operate 103 stores in 39 states and Puerto Rico, after the designated 130 stores have been closed, the company stated.
