JAMESBURG — The Borough Council may have a replacement for former member Carlos Morales as early as next week.
Bernie Long, chairman of the Jamesburg Democratic Committee, said the organization had planned to meet and conduct interviews with possible replacements Thursday evening and to submit a list of three candidates today (Friday) to the council. He said the council would pick one of those candidates to complete the remaining two years of Mr. Morales’ term at its Wednesday meeting.
Mr. Morales, a Democrat who was first elected to the council in 2002 and was re-elected in 2005, handed in his resignation Feb. 27. He is a member of the New Jersey National Guard who served in the Iraq war. He was deployed Sept. 11, 2006, and returned Jan. 24, 2007.
Mr. Long said the committee is looking for someone who is intelligent, honest, ambitious and friendly with the public and who cares about people.
"(We want) someone who wants Jamesburg to be the best that it can be," he said.
Mr. Long said replacing Mr. Morales is a difficult task and he will be missed.
"He was a good guy," Mr. Long said. "He was a good man."
