Joseph Mondello
TRENTON Joseph Mondello, 93, died March 8 in Saint Mary’s Medical Center, Middletown Township, Pa.
Born in Cambridge, Mass., he resided in Italy for 30 years, France for five years, and for the past 50 years in Trenton.
Mr. Mondello served in the Italian Army during World War II. He retired in 1976 after more than 50 years as a mason/bricklayer with the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, Local 9, Bordentown.
He was a ballroom dance instructor when he lived in Palermo, Italy, and was a member of the Neopolitan Society, Trenton.
Son of the late Placido and Antonia Smedile Mondello, brother of the late Nino and Andrea Mondello, Dina Arena, and Josie Graziano, and father-in-law of the late Armando Agnoli, he is survived by his wife of 71 years, Grace Anastasi Mondello; a son and daughter-in-law, Antonino P. and Mimma Mondello of Robbinsville; three daughters and a son-in-law, Antonella Agnoli of Newtown, Pa., Alda and Peter Immordino of Washington Crossings, Pa., and Sandra Gervasio of Langhorne, Pa.; a brother and a sister-in-law, Carlo and Fernanda Mondello of Wyoming: two sisters and a brother-in-law, Nina and Arturo DeAngelo, and Sandy Perito all of West Virginia; a sister-in-law, Gina Mondello of Trenton; 12 grandchildren, Dr. Marc Cozzarin, Lea Scanlan, Adriana Pilaris, Joseph Mondello, Sabrina Agnoli, Stephen Mondello, Serena, Nikki, and Jenna Immordino, Damian, Jason and Adrienne Gervasio; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held Monday from the Brenna Funeral Home, 340 Hamilton Ave., Trenton.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday at Our Lady of the Angels Parish at Saint Joachim’s Church, Butler Street, Trenton.
Entombment followed in Saint Mary’s Mausoleum, Hamilton.
Dorothy Letts
ROBBINSVILLE Dorothy Letts died March 7 at Compassionate Care Hospice in Trenton.
Born in Trenton, she was an area resident all of her life and was employed as a home health aid for many years.
Ms. Letts was a member of the Hibernian Club of Hamilton and the V.F.W. Post 3525 Ladies Auxiliary, and was an avid bowler in many leagues over the years.
Daughter of the late Edward and Mary Gray Gernhardt, sister of the late Mary and Earl Metzler, Mildred Brickman, Ina Marie Young and sisters-in-law Mina Metzler and Dolores Gernhardt and brother-in-law Albert and Kay Letts, and wife of the late William J. Letts Sr., she is survived by her children, son Alfred, daughters Veronica and Ina Marie, and son William and wife Michele; grandchildren Mandi and Kyle Masterpole and William III and Serena Letts; brothers and sisters-in-law Alexander and Louise Gernhardt, Edward and Betty Lou Gernhardt, James and Patricia Gernhardt, Joseph and Laura Gernhardt, and Lawrence and Susan Gerhardt; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Edward and Helen Letts, Harry and Caroline Letts, Nora and Roger Leip, Helen and Joe Sacks, Barbara and Tony D’Artitlio and Thomas Metzler Sr.; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday from the Kingston & Kemp Funeral Home, 260 White Horse Ave., Hamilton.
Entombment followed in Greenwood Cemetery Mausoleum in Hamilton.

Anna C. Kostyal
CLARK Anna C. (Zilka) Kostyal, 95, died March 7 in Westfield Center, Genesis Eldercare in Westfield.
Born in Brookside, Ala., she was a resident of Clark for 66 years, prior in Rahway.
She was employed as a teller for Stonewall Savings & Loan in Linden for 10 years, retiring in 1968.
Wife of the late Mr. John Kostyal, she is survived by her daughters, Beverly Lynch of Robbinsville and Valerie Haggard of Bedminster; sisters, Helen Cook of New Hope, Pa. and Irene Zahorski of Clark; grandchildren, Siobhan and Jeffrey Bartkowski of Hamilton, Meghan and Russell Fries of Robbinsville and Sean Lynch of Mechanicsville, Md.; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Monday from the Walter J. Johnson Funeral Home, 803 Raritan Road, Clark.
A funeral mass was held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Rahway.
Interment followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Clark.
Josephine J. Bac Tiffenbach
HAMILTON TOWNSHIP Josephine J. Bac Tiffenbach, 82, died March 8 at the Capital Health System at Fuld.
Born in Trenton, Mrs. Tiffenbach was a lifelong Trenton and Hamilton Township resident.
She retired in 1986 after 19 years of service with the State of New Jersey, Department of Personnel at the downtown Trenton offices. She was a member of the Hamilton Four Season’s Seniors.
She enjoyed bowling in the Hamilton Senior’s Bowling League as well as trips to the Jersey Shore and Atlantic City with her husband, Frank. Also, she really enjoyed painting with oil colors and home gardening.
Daughter of the late George and Marianna Wrobel Bac, mother of the late James Tiffenbach, sister of the late John Bac and Helen Malinowski, she is survived by her husband of 61 years, Frank J. Tiffenbach; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Steven F. and Elaine Tiffenbach of Highland Ranch, Colo. and David and Eileen Tiffenbach of South Plainfield; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Susan and William Cirullo of Pennington and Judy and Michael Balint of Robbinsville; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Wanda Jantz of Lansing, Mich. and Sophia and husband Pete SaFranko of Lawrenceville; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held Tuesday from the Winowicz Funeral Chapel, 865 Brunswick Ave.
Funeral Liturgy was celebrated Tuesday in St. Hedwig’s Church with the Rev. Dr. Jacek Labinski presiding.
Burial was in St. Hedwig’s Cemetery, Ewing Township.

Carl M. Scharite
NEW EGYPT Carl M. Scharite, 54, died March 4 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Hamilton.
Born in Trenton, he was a lifetime area resident.
Mr. Scharite was a member of the New Jersey Carpenters Local 2250 of Red Bank and an accomplished artist. He was a master craftsman and boat builder. He was a lifeguard for many years at Long Beach Island State Park and during his award winning high school swimming career, he broke many records of which some still stand today.
Predeceased by his brother, Edward Scharite, he is survived by his wife, Judith Runge-Scharite; two daughters, Paige and Emily Scharite, both of New Egypt; parents, Frank and Joan Scharite, of Ellisdale; sister-in-law, Kathryn Wood of New Egypt; niece Melody Lloyd and nephews Daniel and Bryan Wood; as well as other family and close friends.
Funeral services were held March 8 at Allentown Presbyterian Church, 20 High St., Allentown.
Interment followed in Ellisdale Cemetery.

Grace N. Thomson
ROBBINSVILLE Grace N. Thomson, 92, died March 6 at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, Hamilton.
Born in Jersey City, Mrs. Thomson moved to Staten Island, N.Y. in 1951 and resided there until relocating to Bear Creek Adult Assisted Living, West Windsor in 2004.
She attended the Dutch Neck First Presbyterian Church in West Windsor.
Predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Oliver Thomson, she is survived by a son, Robert K. (Bob) Thomson of Robbinsville; a sister, Annie Budd; a niece, Laurie Chabot; and nephews, David, Robert, and George Budd.
Funeral services were held March 9 at the Meislohn-Silvie Funeral Home, 1289 Forest Ave., Staten Island, N.Y.
Interment was in Moravian Cemetery

Joseph E. Ash
LAWRENCEVILLE Joseph E. Ash, 79, died March 9 in Saint Francis Medical Center, Trenton.
Born in Trenton, he resided in Lawrenceville for the past 32 years.
Mr. Ash retired in 1991 after 25 years from the New Jersey Department of Transportation, Ewing Township.
He was an officer and member of Local 195, AFL-CIO-CLC and an avid New York Yankee Fan.
Son of the late Nicholas and Florence Genise Ash, father of the late Donna M. Rura, and brother-in-law of the late Richard Storcella, he is survived by his wife, Jean J. Vizzini Ash; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Rita and Frank Pintimalli of Robbinsville, and Carma Storcella of Ewing Township; a granddaughter, Nicole Rura of Hamilton Township; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Russell and Shirley Vizzini of Columbus and John and Jackie Vizzini of Yardville; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The funeral was held Tuesday from the Brenna Funeral Home, 340 Hamilton Ave., Trenton.

Catherine V. Torrington
HAMILTON SQUARE Catherine V. "Ronnie" Torrington, 72, died Sunday at home.
Born in Cork, Ireland, she came to the United States in 1966 and resided in Indianapolis then moved to Hamilton Square in 1984.
Mrs. Torrington was formerly a registered nurse at St. Andrew’s Hospital in London, England. She more recently worked at Project Freedom in Robbinsville, retiring in 1999.
Daughter of the late Dennis and Kathleen Nason, and sister of the late Jude Nason of Cork, Ireland and Mary Edwards from Oswestry, Wales, she is survived by her husband of 47 years, Les Torrington; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Gary Patrick Torrington of San Diego, Calif., Tony Torrington and his wife, Lisa of Robbinsville and Leslie Andrew Torrington of Nags Head, N.C.; a sister, Helena Riordan of Cork, Ireland; two grandchildren, Brooke and Drake Torrington; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday from the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square.
Burial will follow services.
Family and friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Colonial Home.
