MONTGOMERY — Police will be out in full force Saturday, patrolling for St. Patrick’s Day revelers who are drunk behind the wheel.
"Because the holiday falls on a Saturday this year, we’ll be working even harder with sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols and using undercover officers to get more drunk drivers off the road," said Lt. Greg Harkins.
When going out this Saturday, always designate a sober driver before the party begins and never let friends drive drunk, police said.
According to police statistics, 59 percent of all traffic fatalities that occurred in the evening of St. Patrick’s Day in 2005 involved a driver with a blood alcohol concentration of .01 or higher. Of those, 89 percent involved a driver with a blood alcohol level of .08 or higher.
"Don’t push your luck on St. Patrick’s Day. Remember, ‘Drunk driving. Over the limit. Under arrest,’" said Lt. Harkins.
