Domenico Lubrano
Retired foreman at university
Domenico Lubrano of Princeton died Wednesday at University Medical Center at Princeton. He was 66.
Born in Isernia, Italy, his family moved to Pettoranello, Italy, where he resided until 1969 before moving to the United States and settling in Princeton.
Mr. Lubrano retired in 2002 with over 33 years of service as a foreman at Princeton University Building Services. He also worked for over 37 years as a landscaper in the Princeton area.
Mr. Lubrano was the namesake for his son’s company, Domenico Lubrano Gardening and Lawn Service LLC.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church and Roma Eterna of Princeton.
Son of the late Nicola and Antonia Rossi Lubrano, brother of the late Cosmo Lubrano, he is survived by his wife of 43 years Wilma Rossi Lubrano; daughter and son-in-law Antoinette and Brian Pirrera of Hamilton; son and daughter-in-law Sebastiano and Veronica Lubrano of Hamilton; brothers and sisters-in-law Vincenzo and Giacinta Lubrano of Lawrence and Damiano and Rosa Lubrano of Ewing; sister Olympia Lise of Princeton; grandchildren Jessica and Joseph Pirrera, Justin Lubrano and Joshua Brazil; father-in-law and mother-in-law Donato and Elizabeth Rossi of Pettoranello, Italy; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Tony and Maria Sferra of Lawrence; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, 40 Vandeventer Ave., Princeton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, 214 Nassau St., Princeton.
Entombment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park, Franklin Township.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Lina B. Knight
Formerly of Princeton
ROCHESTER, N.Y. Lina B. Knight died Sunday. She was 94.
A former Princeton resident, she moved to Princeton in the 1970s and to Rochester in 1993.
She was a member of The Present Day Club in Princeton and with her husband ran an antiques shop in the Tomato Factory in Hopewell Borough.
Wife of the late Walter E. Knight, mother of the late Carol Hoffman, she is survived by her daughter, Susan Keenan of Rochester and granddaughter Sally Nunnally.
Services will be held privately in Scottsville, Ky.

Lawrence Swirsky
Builder and developer
MONROE Lawrence Swirsky died Wednesday at University Medical Center at Princeton. He was 81.
Born in Linden, he was a resident of Princeton 17 years before moving to Monroe.
A developer and builder, he was president of Garner Construction Corp. and later ran a residential inspection company.
He was former president of the Delaware Valley Builders Association and a member of the New Jersey Business Industry Association.
In 1972, he was named Builder of the Year by the Central Jersey Builders Association.
He received an award from the Jewish Community Center in 1980 for his contributions.
An accomplished sailor, he was a member of the Raritan Yacht Club.
He served in the Navy and received the Purple Heart.
Son of the late Leo and Ida Swirsky, he is survived by his wife, Rita Millner Swirsky; son and daughter-in-law Mitchell and Judy Swirsky of Yardley, Pa.; daughter Sherry Swirsky of Philadelphia; stepdaughters and their husbands Helane and Richard Staller of Princeton and Susan and Steven Plotnick of Potomac, Md.; stepsons Blair and Arthur Siegle, both of Boulder, Colo.; sister and brother-in-law Shirley and Izzy Green of Monroe; and grandchildren Sarah, David, Benjamin, Lauren and Ian.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at The Jewish Center, 435 Nassau St., Princeton.
Burial will be at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin.
The period of mourning will be observed at the Swirsky residence in Monroe.

Sophia M. Godfrey
Former Princeton resident
BRUNSWICK, Maine Sophia Moore Godfrey died Feb. 27. She was 93.
Born in Ardmore, Pa., she spent her childhood in the Philadelphia area and was a former Princeton resident.
After attending The Agnes Irwin School in Rosemont, Pa., she went on to graduate from Smith College in 1936.
She was an active participant in her children’s activities and interests and volunteered for many organizations including Recording for the Blind, Princeton Hospital Auxiliary and the New Jersey Girl Scout Council.
In the summers, she taught her children how to sail and volunteered for the Blue Hill Library and the Jonathan Fisher House.
She enjoyed her retirement years in Vero Beach, Fla., and her lifelong summer home in Blue Hill, Maine.
Daughter of the late Elinor Townsend Moore and Springer H. Moore, wife of the late Ellwood Godfrey, to whom she was married 50 years, mother of the late Andrew Godfrey, sister of the late Springer and Townsend Moore, and mother-in-law of the late McRae Werth, she is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Caroline Werth of Blue Hill, Maine, Georgiana and Dana Leonard of Freeport, Maine and Sophia and Charles Bauer of Burlington, Conn.; daughter-in-law Marie Godfrey of Ogden, Utah; grandchildren Sabrina Freewynn and Alida Copping of Portland, Ore.; Stephanie Bauer of Newton, Mass., Justin Bauer of Geneva, N.Y., Seton Leonard, and Elissa Leonard of New London, Conn.; step-granddaughter Nancy Werth of Millbridge, Maine; and great-grandchildren Sage and Zane Freewynn in Portland, Ore.
Interment will be 11 a.m. April 21 Saint Thomas’ Church, Whitemarsh, Fort Washington, Pa.

CHERRY HILL Florence R. Sussman Saul died Monday.
She was a homemaker.
Wife of the late Dr. Charles Saul, she is survived by daughter and son-in-law Martha and Martin Rossman of Princeton; sons Dr. Barry Saul of New York City and Ira Saul of Fairfax, Va.; grandchildren Lonny Rossman, Corey Rossman, Barclay Saul and Amanda Saul; and great-grandchildren Liam, Eli and Ryan.

Frederick J. Stives
Formerly of West Windsor
HAMILTON Frederick J. "Fred" Stives died Wednesday in Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton after a long illness. He was 84.
Born in Princeton and raised in West Windsor, he was at Grovers Mill when the Martians landed in Orson Wells’ "War of the Worlds."
Mr. Stives worked for many years as a painting contractor in Princeton. Among his clients was Albert Einstein.
He was a founding member of the Ozark Sportsmen Club and served as its president and captain. He also served as trainer and equipment manager for Steinert High School. He will be honored in Steinert High School’s Hall of Fame in April for his more than 30 years of service to the football program.
An Army Air Corps sergeant during World War II, he was a crew chief on B-24, B-17 and B-29 bomber aircraft.
Son of the late Fred and Mary Courtney Stives and brother to the late Richard Stives, he is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marjorie G. Stives; son and daughter-in-law Robert and Jeanne Stives of Hamilton; daughter and son-in-law Nancy and John Coughlin of Woodbury, Minn.; brothers Jack Stives and Courtney Renegar; sisters Dorothy Coffee and Janet Stathopulos; grandchildren Sean Stives and Christine, Jennifer and Jay Coughlin; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton.
Interment will be Monday in Beaumont Cemetery, Monroe Township, Pa.
