The Princeton Parks Alliance has confirmed the rededication and illumination ceremony of the Princeton Battle Monument just in time for the 85th anniversary of its unveiling.
The rededication ceremony, slated for 8 p.m. June 9, will precede a benefit hosted by the Princeton Parks Alliance and Historic Morven Inc.
The monument’s rehabilitation was initially suggested by the late Mayor Joseph O’Neill, who helped spearhead an initiative to complete the task.
Designed by architect Thomas Hastings and unveiled in 1922, the Princeton Battle Monument portrays General George Washington at the Battle of Princeton.
The rededication ceremony will be free and open to the public.
"The monument lighting effort has been a terrific project for the Princeton Parks Alliance," said Alliance Secretary Anne O’Neill, wife of Mayor O’Neill, in a prepared statement. "Now we can say with confidence that Joe’s vision will soon be achieved."
The Princeton Parks Alliance is seeking corporate sponsors to help cover the costs of the celebration. Those interested in making a donation should contact Andrew Koontz at (609) 252-0264 or by e-mail through [email protected].
