BRANCHBURG George Harrison Pierce died March 15 at home. He was 75.
Mr. Pierce was a chemist for 38 years with National Starch in Bridgewater.
The Purple Heart was awarded to him for multiple injuries received when he served in the Korean War; he received many other medals for his bravery.
He was a member of the Hillsborough Senior Citizens, the VFW Thomas J. Kavanaugh, Manville Post 2290, the Manville Elks Lodge No. 2119, American Legion Post 12 and the Purple Heart Chapter No. 21.
His wife, Irene Claire (DeLaney) Pierce, died in 1967; and a son, Brian Douglas Pierce, died in 1995.
Surviving are two daughters, Audrey Westervelt of Bridgewater and Cindi Miller of Bridgewater; a twin sister, Marjorie Thompson of California and a sister, Doris Harrison of Red Bank; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held Tuesday from Bongiovi Funeral Home, Raritan. Interment followed at New Cemetery in Somerville, with full military honors.
