Team Survivor Tri-State, a nonprofit organization that provides free exercise programs, health education and support to women with or recovering from cancer, and The Cancer Project, a national nonprofit dedicated to advancing cancer prevention through education and research, are presenting the Food For Life Cooking Class series, free cooking classes for cancer survivors, beginning Monday, April 9, at Whole Foods Market in West Windsor.
"The single easiest and best thing most of us can do to prevent cancer or its recurrence is to eat right," says Jennifer Reilly, R.D., a senior nutritionist for The Cancer Project. "More than a third of all cancer deaths in this country are due to poor diet."
Each class centers on important cancer-nutrition topics as chef Christine Waltermyer guides students through the preparation of tasty and easy-to-prepare recipes.
The schedule of classes follows:
April 9: "Fueling Up on Low Fat Foods."
April 16: "Favoring Fiber."
April 23: "Discovering Dairy Alternatives."
April 30: "Replacing Meat."
May 7: "Planning Healthy Meals."
May 14: "Antioxidants and Phytochemicals."
May 21: "Immune-Boosting Foods."
June 4: "Maintaining a Healthy Weight."
Classes, which will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m., are open to any woman with or recovering from cancer. They are free of charge but registration is required.
To register, contact Team Survivor Tri-State at (609) 203-7012 or e-mail [email protected].
