BURLINGTON CITY — Police on Wednesday said there had been no arrests yet in the fatal stabbing of a Florence man who was killed inside a private social club on March 22 at approximately 11:20 p.m.
Police responded to the report of a fight and a stabbing at the Progressive Democratic Club in Burlington City, where Jeffrey Braxton, 21, a resident of West Front Street in Florence, was found on the ground in the bar area, said Burlington County prosecutor’s office spokesman Jack Smith.
Mr. Smith said that paramedics transported Mr. Braxton to Lourdes Medical Center in Willingboro, where he was pronounced dead not long after he arrived.
An autopsy was performed March 23, but Mr. Smith said the results have not been released.
"The investigation is ongoing," said Mr. Smith.
The Progressive Democratic Club is located on 309 Green St. in Burlington City. According to the city clerk, Cindy Crivaro, the establishment is a private club with a liquor license incorporated in 1940. The Progressive Democratic Club has no affiliation to the Democratic Party.
The club only hosts members and their guests, and it was unknown whether Mr. Braxton was a member or a guest to the club.
Ms. Crivaro said she believes the club is currently closed due to code enforcement issues, but could not confirm if it was related to the investigation.
On Tuesday there was no answer at the listed number for the club.
As of Wednesday morning, all calls to the Burlington City police were being referred to Burlington County Prosecutor spokesman Mr. Smith.
Mr. Smith commented on Wednesday that there were no new developments in the case, and that it was still ongoing.
The police urge anyone with information about the killing to call Burlington City police at (609) 386-0262, or to call the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Major Crimes Unit at (609) 265-5035. There is also a tip line open for the case at (609) 233-8548.
