Signs are being posted this week on Route 31 between I-95 and the Pennington Circle to deter left turns on the mile-long stretch of highway.
"Many of the signs went up yesterday. I think they will have them all up today," Hopewell Township Police Chief George Meyer said late Tuesday.
All left turns off Route 31 are prohibited between the interstate and circle. Left turns out of commercial driveways also are prohibited. Left turns out of residential driveways are permitted.
With the exception of Denow Road, which is signalized and where southbound traffic can make a left turn via a jughandle, left turns are prohibited onto Route 31 from all streets that intersect the highway between I-95 and the circle. Those streets are Brandon Road, Diverty Road, Orchard Avenue and Crest Avenue.
Police can enforce traffic restrictions once they have been posted on signs. Violators face fines of $85 and two points on their driving records.
