Princeton Rep to present Shakespeare in the Square April 22

On Sunday, April 22, between 2 and 4 p.m., Princeton Rep will present Shakespeare in the Square 2007, a celebration in honor of Shakespeare’s 443rd birthday (a day early), featuring performances of new and especially commissioned works by local celebrities. Many Princeton Rep Shakespeare Festival actors will be featured this year, as well. The event will take place on the Green at Palmer Square in downtown Princeton
As in years past, this annual event is an opportunity for everyone — including actors, poets and just plain Shakespeare lovers — to contribute to the afternoon’s readings of favorite selections from the Bard or by contemporary poets on Shakespearean themes.
Palmer Square’s David Newton and Princeton Rep’s Susan Garrett will emcee this entertaining potpourri. This year there will be a "Best Of … " competition. The winners will receive prizes and a Bard-CARD membership to Princeton Rep’s upcoming season.
All who would like to participate by reciting a sonnet or poem, performing a song or soliloquy, or reading a passage of their choice from one of Shakespeare’s plays, are invited to contact Princeton Rep by e-mail, [email protected], to register the selection and receive a time slot. Groups are encouraged to present a Shakespeare scene or Elizabethan-themed musical or dance piece.
Winberries’ expanded Menu on the Green will include hot dogs, hamburgers, vegetarian chili, wine and beer. There will be birthday cake, free for all, as the afternoon’s finale.
