In response to the article titled “Worker on tap to ferret out recycling scofflaws,” I wish to comment.
First, my husband and I are avid recyclers, but we only occasionally place the recyclables at the curb for pickup. We pass the Ocean County Recycle Station on New Hampshire Avenue every week and we drop our recyclables off there. We started this drop-off habit after several episodes of strong winds, which knocked our container over, spilling the contents onto the street and lawns!
Second, although we understand the honorable intent of the public works department, we would certainly resent getting notices from the “recycle policeman!”
Third, we expect a backlash on the part of real scofflaws when they get their notices! After getting a notice, a real scofflaw is likely to become a deliberate violator, instead of being merely negligent!
Though we doubt it, we hope your plan will work. However, we do not want any notices declaring us scofflaws!
