Richard A. Van Zandt, 81, of Kendall Park, died Wednesday, March 28, at JFK Medical Center in Edison.
Born in Yonkers, N.Y., and raised in Flushing, he moved to Kendall Park in 1959.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a signalman for the USS Rodeman. He was a member of the Tin Can Sailors, and along with his wife in 1960, was a member of the Villagers Barn Theater of Central Jersey. He was a salesman for various companies that sold building material. He was an artist and sculptor exhibiting his paintings in the South Brunswick Senior Citizens Club and the Phillips Mill Exhibit in New Hope, Pa..
His wife, Jeanne Van Zandt, is deceased. He is survived by a son, Peter of West Hills, Calif.; a daughter, Victoria of Los Angeles; a brother, William S. of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and two grandsons, Nicholas and Andrew.
A Memorial Mass took place Monday, April 2, at St. Augustine of Canterbury Church, 45 Henderson Road, Kendall Park.
Arrangements were under the direction of M.J. Murphy Funeral Home, 616 Ridge Road at New Road, Monmouth Junction.
