MONROE — Julius Mate died Thursday at Monroe Village. He was 88.
   Born in South River, he was a Monroe resident since 1994.
   He was employed in management at Johnson & Johnson in New Brunswick, Arnold Constable in New Brunswick and Krauszer food stores.
   A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 214 in South River and co-founder of the J.F.K. Youth Baseball League in South River.
   A communicant of St. Mary of Ostrabrama Roman Catholic Church in South River, he was a member of the Holy Name Society.
   Son of the late Julius and Esther Mate, husband of the late Estelle Deptula Mate, who died in 2003, brother of the late Frank Mate, Irene Peters, Mary Butkiewicz and Margaret Mate, he is survived by his son and fiancé James Mate and Patrice Weiman of Cranford; daughters and sons-in-law Elaine and Mark Bahadurian of South Brunswick, Donna and Joseph Stachowicz of Palatine, Ill. and Cynthia Mate and Philip Luber of Concord, Mass; sister Anna Zawistowski of Sayreville; grandchildren Elizabeth Graff, William Moore and Holy Mate-Luber; great-granddaughter Norea Graff; and several nephews.
   The funeral will be 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Maliszewski Funeral Home, 218 Whitehead Ave., South River, followed by a 9 a.m. Mass at Saint Mary of Ostrabrama Roman Catholic Church, South River. Burial will follow in Saint Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick.
   Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial service is April 14
   
A memorial service for Dr. Lillian Baum Tenney of Princeton, who died Feb. 23, will be held 3 p.m. April 14 in Princeton University Chapel followed by a reception at Prospect House on the university campus.
   The service was originally scheduled for March 17 but was postponed because of a winter storm.
   A Princeton resident since 1953, Dr. Tenney was a psychiatrist with a private practice in Lawrence Township. She also taught and practiced psychiatry at Rutgers University.
