Breaking News

Three candidates have filed for the Republican nomination in the June 5 primary for four open seats on the East Windsor Township Council.
Aaron Sears, a member of the Twin Rivers board of directors, Nicholas Di
Dia, an unsuccessful council candidate in 2003 and 2005, and Carol Ann Higgins, who lost in her 1999 bid, filed by Monday’s 4 p.m. deadline. Both Mr. Di Dia and Ms. Higgins also lost as write-in candidates in 2001.
The GOP was unable to find a fourth candidate, and thus cannot wrest control of the council from Democrats for the first time since 1996.
Mayor Janice Mironov and council colleagues Walter Daniels, Marc Lippman and Marsha Weinstein filed petitions last week for the Democrats. Each will be seeking a fourth, four-year term.
In Hightstown, Mike Theokas, owner of Theo’s Lakeside Tavern in the borough, filed for the GOP nomination for two open seats on the Borough
Council. Incumbent Councilman Walter Sikorski and downtown businessman Jeff Bond previously filed for the Democratic party nomination.
