The Chelsea at Manalapan, an assisted living community at 445 Route 9 South, Manalapan, will hold a free seminar for seniors, “Senior Fraud,” April 18 at 2 p.m. Guest speaker is Rich Dalfanzo of the Monmouth County Department on Aging. Arc Resources Unlimited (ARU), a program of The Arc of Monmouth, and VSA arts of New Jersey announce their collaboration on a new art gallery at the Freehold Raceway Mall, featuring work by artists with disabilities. The gallery will offer exhibits, receptions with the artists, workshops, and open house gatherings.

The gallery is at the Freehold Raceway Mall, Route 9 South, Freehold. The gallery will celebrate its official opening, April 18, with an open house from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and a reception from 5-8 p.m. Advance registration is required for the reception. The celebration will feature exhibits, works of art and an opportunity to meet the artists.

Monmouth Women’s Connection will hold a “Spring into Health” lunch April 18 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Main Street Bistro, 30 E. Main St., Freehold. Reservations must be made by April 13. Feature speaker will be Sharon Mousselli, associate manager of the American Diabetes Association. She will discuss symptoms and different types of diabetes. The 26th Rosebud Gala Dinner Dance of LADACIN Network, formerly Cerebral Palsy of Monmouth and Ocean Counties Inc., was recently held at the Sheraton Eatontown Hotel. The gala honored Commerce Bank as its 2007 Corporate Honoree. Commerce Bank is a Platinum Corporate Guardian of the Agency.

Humanitarian honoree was Joseph Walker. Mr. Walker, the brother of a client of the Schroth Adult Program of LADACIN Network, raised more than $82,000 for the Agency by running in three New York City Marathons. Also honored was the Lakewood Lions Club which has secured funds for equipment the students of the sgency’s Lehmann School need to participate in school activities.

This year’s festivities were highlighted by Howard Cross, former New York Giants tight end, who once again presided over the live auction which included a gift certificate from Gabowitz TV & Appliance Co., East Brunswick.

The 296 guests were also entertained by Channel Three Music, a silent auction, a floral contest and a 50/50 raffle. The 50/50 first-prize winner received $15,680 and the second-prize winner received $6,720. Top vote-getters in the floral competition were The Towne Florist, Oakhurst; Koch Florist & Gifts, Middletown; and Craig P. Kiely Floral Studio, Red Bank. Twenty-six florists in Monmouth and Ocean Counties donated centerpieces, which were judged by the attendees.

Barbara Falotico, Manalapan, a parent affiliated with the Agency, and Barbara Ryll, West Creek, Agency board president and financial specialist, Wachovia Bank, co-chaired the event.

CentraState Medical Center has received a $35,000 grant from the Walter and Louise Sutcliffe Foundation to provide training for inpatient oncology nurses in “complementary care” modalities, including Reiki; guided imagery, meditation and relaxation technique; the “M” technique (a series of therapeutic stroking movements); aromatherapy; and massage therapy.

The Sutcliffe Foundation grant will be applied toward training in the selected modalities for all 18 nurses on the medical oncology unit, which admits 450 patients each year. Plans include instituting a train-the-trainer system to sustain the program and extending training to nurses on the hospital’s surgical unit, which treats close to 300 surgical oncology patients each year.

The Sutcliffe Foundation provides grants to institutions for nursing education and cancer research, and supports program development, student nursing scholarships and excellence in research, primarily at institutions within New Jersey.

Arthur M. Peslak, Freehold, a partner in the law firm of Mandel and Peslak, Freehold, and a nature photographer, has created and produced a nature calendar featuring birds he photographed in New Jersey, Massachusetts, Arizona, and New Mexico.

Peslak took first place in The Star-Ledger’s photo contest (nature category) in 2006 and earned an honorable mention in 2005 in a National Wildlife Federation photography contest.

In 1998, Peslak joined with Lawrence Mandel, Lakewood, to form Mandel and Peslak, a Freehold law firm that specializes in intellectual property matters, such as the licensing, protection, and litigation of copyrights, patents and trademarks.

Peslak is a member of N.J. Audubon Society. He holds a certificate in professional photography from the New York Institute of Photography, and is a member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals, the North America Nature Photography Association (NANPA) and Naturescapes.net. His photos have appeared in Nature Photographer Magazine, Birders World.com and Naturescapes.net.
