National Library Week events begin April 15

During National Library Week April 15-21, children age 11 and younger can reduce library fines by spending time reading in the “Read for Fines” program at the Middletown Township Public Library.

Children may reduce accumulated fines by $1 for each half-hour the child quietly reads at any Middletown Township library (includes Middletown, Lincroft section of Middletown, Bayshore and Navesink section of Middletown). Children may read any book or magazine not assigned as homework, and adults may quietly read to or with children too young to read independently. For more information, call the children’s department at (732) 671-3700, ext. 340, or the local branch.

In anticipation of Earth Day, the library will offer a free screening of Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth,” the 2007 Academy Award-winner for best documentary April 19 at 7 p.m. The film depicts the global climate crisis. Stage veteran and international performer Leiza Michaels perform in concert April 25 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will feature Big Band songs of the 40s from Chattanooga Choo-Choo to the Boogie Woogie. Michaels has been a featured singer for Liza Minelli and Ben Vereen at various fundraisers, and traveled with her bands worldwide to support United Service Organization troops.

For more information on the above, call the library at (732) 671-3700, ext. 333.
