Hertha Rubel
    Hertha "Pat" S. Weinberg Rubel, 86, died Tuesday, April 3, at the University Medical Center at Princeton.
    Born in Germany, she came to the United States in 1934 and resided in Queens and Washington Heights, N.Y., before moving to Monroe 25 years ago.
    Prior to retiring, she was a hairdresser. She was a member of the Jewish Congregation of Clearbrook, the Women’s American ORT and the Clearbrook Seniors, where she was past president, and she organized many Atlantic City trips.
    Her husband, Willi L. Rubel, and her son-in-law, George Horowitz, are deceased. She is survived by her two daughters, Renee Horowitz of Manalapan and Sue Simon and her fiancé, Ron Hutnick, of Fords; a sister, Margo Strahl and her husband, Max, of Maspeth, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Jason Simon and his wife, Rachel, Jessica Simon and her boyfriend, Wilfredo Vargas, Seth Horowitz and his wife, Lori, and Robin Horowitz and her fiancé, Adam Geisler; three great-grandchildren, Elijah Horowitz, Abigail and Ethan Simon; and many nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were held on Thursday, April 5, at Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, Cranbury Road at Evergreen Boulevard, East Brunswick. Interment followed at Cedar Park Cemetery, Paramus.

Cecil A. Smith Sr.
    Cecil A. Smith Sr., 68, died Thursday, March 29, in New Brunswick.
    Born in Deland, Fla., he moved to New Jersey at an early age.
    He was educated in both the Deland and Jamesburg school systems. He was one of the best all around athletes that attended Jamesburg High School. He received an athletic scholarship to Rider College where he attended college.
    He was employed at Phillips Dodge for several years. He also worked for many years in landscaping. He spent the last 27 years working at the Jamesburg Training School for Boys as a senior corrections officer.
    He was an avid golfer, enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He was a member of Mt. Ararat, was ordained as a deacon in 2001, and later became chairman of the board. He taught Sunday School and New Members Class, served as assistant treasurer of the Building Fund, and was a dedicated student of Bible Study.

Smith, is deceased. He is survived by his wife, Brenda J. Smith; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Maryann Crawley of Trenton, Cecilia and Darryl Carrington of Bloomfield, Michele Smith of Morrisville, Pa., and Kimberly and Craig Horsley of Cinnaminson; a stepdaughter and her husband, Kimberly and Dewey Ferguson of Burlington; a son, Cecil A. Smith Jr. of Trenton; a stepson and his wife, Robert and Etoria Highsmith of Willingboro; two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandson; an aunt, Eva Bess of Hightstown, and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
    Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 7, at Mt. Ararat Missionary Baptist Church, State Street, Jamesburg. Interment was at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hightstown. Arrangements were under the direction of Anderson Funeral Service, 201 Sandford St., New Brunswick.
Joseph Marblo
    Joseph Marblo, 87, died Saturday, April 7, at home.
    Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Monroe for the past 39 years. After learning to become a tool and die maker, he had a more career of more than 50 years in the field, working primarily for Globe Die Cutting Co. in Metuchen, retiring as a shop foreman in 1990.     His wife, Jeanne Cox, is deceased. He is survived by two daughters, Patricia Marblo and Mary Lewis, both of Monroe; and three grandsons, Rodger Marblo and Joey and Sean Lewis.
    Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 11, at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, 205 Rhode Hall Road, Monroe Township. Interment followed at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
Julius Mate
    Julius Mate, 88, died Thursday, April 5, at Monroe Village, Monroe.
    Born in South River, he had resided there before moving to Monroe in 1994.
    Before his retirement in 1980 he was employed in management at Johnson & Johnson in New Brunswick, Arnold Constable in New Brunswick and Krauszer Food Stores. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a member and past commander of American Legion Post 214 in South River and was co-
founder of the JFK Youth Baseball League in South River. He was a communicant of St. Mary of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in South River where he was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was an avid athlete while attending high school in South ýPage=011 Column=003 OK,0000.00þ
River and was well known for his culinary abilities.
    His wife, Estelle Deptula Mate, brother, Frank Mate and sisters, Irene Peters, Mary Butklewicz, and Margaret Mate, are deceased. He is survived by his son, James Mate and his fiancé, Patrice Welman, of Cranford; his daughters, Elaine Bahadurian and her husband, Mark, of Monmouth Junction, Donna Stachowicz and her husband, Joseph, of Palatine, Ill., and Cynthia Mate and her husband, Philip Luber, of Concord, Mass.; his grandchildren, Elizabeth Graff, William More and wife, Susan, and Holly Mate-Luber; great grandchild Norea Graff; his sister Anna Zawistowski of Sayreville; and several nephews.
    Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 10, from the Maliszewski Funeral Home, 218 Whitehead Ave., South River, followed by mass at Saint Mary of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in South River with burial following at Saint Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick.
Ronald C. Appleby
    Ronald C. Appleby, 60, died Thursday, April 5, at his home in Monroe.
    Raised in Spotswood, he moved to Monroe in 1972 and lived there for the remainder of his life. He was one of the few building officials to have earned the highest building inspection licenses in all fields, which inýPage=011 Column=004 OK,0000.00þ

    He was co-owner of Appleby Electric for many years. He was Construction Official of Monroe Township for over 25 years, and was Director of Construction there for the last 10 years, and was also Construction Official of Old Bridge for two years and Construction Official in Washington Township for several years. He was a former councilman for Monroe Township and served on the Township Planning Board, Shade Tree Commission and Insurance Commission.
    He was proudest of his work for the Monroe Township Municipal Utilities Authority (MTMUA), where he served as Chairman for the last 24 years. During his tenure there the number of customers grew fourfold, to over 16,000. In spite of major expenditures in infrastructure to accommodate this growth, and despite marked improvements in water quality, there has been no rate increase in charges for water and sewer for the last 16 years.
    He was a champion of water conservation, as was recognized by the Association of Environmental Authorities of New Jersey in their Wave Award for Forward Thinking. This organization also named him Commissioner of the Year for 2004. He was a longtime member and former officer of the Elks BPOE Lodge 2033 in South River.

Robert W. Seeburg Jr.
    Robert W. Seeburg, 50, died Sunday, April 8, at Raritan Bay Medical Center in Old Bridge.
    Born in Plainfield, he lived in Old Bridge before moving to Monroe more than 12 years ago.
    He had worked as a marine mechanic in Toms River and Florida. He had served in the U.S. Army in the mid-1970s.
    He is survived by a daughter, Sandra; two sons, Robert W. III of South River and Matthew of East Brunswick; his mother, Patricia Kleiner Andrews of Monroe; a sister, Joan Lezark of Old Bridge; and a brother, Bruce Andrews of Monroe.
    Private cremation was under the direction of Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick.
