Roads, school closings in Cranbury area

Storm results in flooding as governor declares state of emergency.

   A storm that has dumped a reported 6 inches of rain on the region has resulted in significant flooding and road closings.
   Schools in Cranbury, Jamesburg and Monroe are closed today (Monday).
   According to the Monroe Township Police, the township’s Office of Emergency Management was activated at 4:30 a.m. Nine families with a total of 23 residents were evacuated from Mill Lake Manor with the assistance of the Red Cross and placed in a temporary shelter.
The state was reporting that Rt. 130 is closed at milemarker 72.9 in Cranbury.
   Acting Governor Richard Codey has declared a state of emergency. According to a press release from the governor’s office, the state of emergency "gives the director of emergency management the authority to order evacuations and designate shelters. Additionally, the Executive Order empowers Adjutant General Reith to mobilize units of the New Jersey National Guard as needed."
   According to the release, "multiple state agencies are working together to monitor the situation" and "mass transit and major roadways including the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway are operational. State Government will be open as usual."
   The governor is asking that residents "not travel unless necessary."

   According to Monroe Township police, flooding caused the following roads to be closed: Both lanes of Route 33 between Bentley and Applegarth roads; Old Forge Road at the bridge; Union Hill Road at the bridge; Route 527 at the Manalapan border; Tydale Avenue; 10th Street at the bridge; Helmetta Road; Old Forge Road; Sportswood-Englishtown Road; Bordentown Turnpike; Monroe Bourlevard; Forest Park Terrace; Applegate Avenue; Madison Avenue; North Disbrow Hill Road; and Texas Road at the bridge.
