BREAKING NEWS — Voters pass most area school budgets

Florence budget, which included no tax increase, fails at the polls by a narrow margin.

In the Tuesday school board election, unofficial early results indicated that several area school budgets would pass.
According to the Burlington County Web site, the Bordentown Regional School District budget passed by a vote of 548-329.
Three seats were available on the school board. They will be taken by Kim Zablow, who received 321 votes, Brian Lynch, with 373 votes, and Peggy Gens, with 368 votes. Michael McSloy received 216 votes.
The Florence School District budget failed by a vote of 445-417. In the school board race for three seats, Gary Olaff (528 votes), Mark Dimon (379 votes) and Sue Cunningham (384 votes) were the expected winners. Robert Reillo received 339 votes, David Woolston received 372 votes and Robert Dulo received 187 votes.
In Chesterfield School District, the budget passed by a vote of 386-253. The unopposed school board candidates, Todd P. Campanella and Brian C. Meincke, were elected with 389 and 378 votes, respectively.
In the Springfield School District, the budget passed 251-213. In the unopposed school board race for three three-year seats, Dave Asselin got 306 votes, Will Klentzeris got 286 votes, and John Megariotis received 311.
In the Mansfield School District, with three precincts reporting, it appeared that all three budget questions would pass. The first question, which was for the budget, had 768 "yes" votes and 677 "no" votes. The second question, which asks to retain funding for a science teacher at a cost of about $60,000, was poised to pass 770-659 with three precincts reporting. The third, which asks to retain an art teacher at the elementary school at a cost of about $50,000, was also leaning toward the "yes" column, 716-663.
The New Hanover School District budget question passed 35 -18. Four school board candidates ran for four open seats. Christopher Sirak and Cathleen Kaltschmid each received 38 votes. Richard Slater received 43 votes, and RoseMarie Winrow received 43 votes.
In the North Hanover School District, the budget passed 261 -138. In the unopposed school board race, Janet Bruder got 282 votes and William Sullivan got 301 votes.
Results in the Northern Burlington County Regional School District are compiled from the four sending districts. In Chesterfield, voters favored the NBC budget with a vote of 419-196. In North Hanover, voters also were in favor of the budget 261-138. The vote tallies from Mansfield and Springfield added to those totals will decide the overall fate of the budget.
There were two seats available on the Northern Burlington school board representing North Hanover. Michael Crawford , who received 247 votes, and Thomas Ferriolo, who received 213 votes, were the winners according to the unofficial vote count Tuesday night. Anthony Dorsey received 197 votes.
