West Windsor-Plainsboro voters approve school budget

Marathe, Johnson and Walsh elected to board; new taxation system approved

   Voters in West Windsor and Plainsboro approved the $147 million school district budget on Tuesday by a vote of 1,282 to 1,015.
   They elected incumbents Hemant Marathe, Robert Johnson and Ellen Walsh to the Board of Education.
   The question on changing the taxation basis in the district to a system based on the proportion of students from each municipality was overwhelmingly approved.
   Voters in both West Windsor and Plainsboro approved the budget. The budget won approval in West Windsor by a vote of 859-764 and in Plainsboro by 423-251.
   In the race for two seats representing the Board of Education in West Windsor, Mr. Marathe received 967 votes and Mr. Johnson 736 votes. They defeated challengers Michael Donnelly with 407 votes, Jay Bryant with 318 votes and Brett Boal with 310 votes.
   In Plainsboro, Ms. Walsh ran unopposed for the single open seat. She received 522 votes.
   The taxation question was approved in West Windsor by 1,251 to 365 and in Plainsboro by 519 to 146.
