LAMBERTVILLE Police are investigating the burglary of a Bridge Street business that left the building in a shambles.
The ceiling collapsed before dawn April 10 at Fine Food and Flowers at 78 Bridge St. when a burglar or burglars forced their way into the building through a fan vent on the roof, according to police.
The shop was closed that day for repairs. Police said nothing was taken.
"They definitely did some damage," said Detective Sgt. Jeffrey Jones said.
During the break in, the burglar fell through the building’s original tin ceiling and then fell 3 to 4 feet farther to burst through the drop ceiling below, according to Police Director Bruce Cocuzza.
"All sorts of jagged metal" were strewn throughout the interior, Mr. Cocuzza said.
He added, "It was a minefield of hazards."
Officers were summoned by the building’s alarm that sounded at 4:41 a.m.
