MONROE — A 68-year-old resident of Rossmoor was injured Saturday when her home caught fire.
The Monroe Township Fire Departments, First Aid and Police Department responded to the home of Jeanette Ditalia, of North Rossmoor Drive, at 7:33 p.m., police said. Upon arrival, they saw that there was a fire in the home’s living room, police said.
Ms. Ditalia told police she saw her couch on fire and tried to put it out. She suffered burns to her upper back and neck and was transported to St. Peters University Hospital in New Brunswick, police said. Hospital officials could not access her information Thursday morning.
Police said the fire was contained to the living room. An investigation was conducted by the fire inspector, who determined that the fire began in a waste basket before spreading to the couch, police said.
