Pennington Day events scheduled Friday and Saturday

   May 18 and 19 events include:
   — On Friday, Valley residents are invited to attend a Spring Social at Hopewell Valley Vineyards, Yard Road, from 7-11 p.m. Hosts are the Hopewell Valley Historical Society and the Pennington Day Committee. The evening will feature local wines, light fare, piano entertainment by David Berends and dancing under the tent to live band, "The Lifters."    — Fun at the Pennington School: On Friday, activities will include a family swim (from 4-5:30 p.m.), dinner (from 5:30-7:30 p.m.), lawn games (from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Dinner includes chicken, burgers, hot dogs, salads, drinks, watermelon and brownies. Sponsored by The Pennington School. Tickets are: adults ($6.50), children ($3.50 for 10 and under). For further information, call Tom Liwosz at 737-8824.
   — T-shirts: Get a jump on Pennington Day by picking up a T-shirt at Cup of Joe’s, located on Main Street in Pennington.
   — Most events take place on Saturday, May 19. Co-chairs Brit West and Richele Lieboff are heading Pennington Day for the second year in a row.

   — Saturday morning Pancake Breakfast (Cyrus Temple, 131 Burd St.): Adults, $8, children, $4 (4-12); under 4, free with paying adult. Start the day with pancakes, sausages, cereal, coffee, tea, milk and juice. Sponsored by the Hopewell Valley Lions Club.
   — The Philadelphia Soul (Philadelphia’s Arena Football League team): See Soul Man — The Soul’s official mascot. There will also be give-a-ways and other things going on at the Soul’s booth.
   —Second annual Children’s Battle Against Hunger Bike Ride: Children 3-13 are invited to take part in the children’s nondenominational bike tour. Sponsored by St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church’s Parish Life Guild, the ride will take place at 9 a.m. Rider check-in and registration begins at 8 a.m. The bike route begins at Toll Gate Grammar School.    — Mixed-Doubles Tennis Tournament: Open to the community from 9 a.m.- noon at the Pennington School tennis courts. There is no charge to participate.
   — 31st annual Pennington Run-for-Fun: Sponsored by the Hopewell Valley YMCA. The event consists of a 5K Health Walk, a 5K Road Race and a 1-mile Fun Run.
   — Dog Show: Registration begins at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, with the show starting at 2 p.m. on The Pennington School lawn. Categories include: Best Dressed, Best Vocal Performance, Best Look-Alike, Owner & Dog (adults and children under 12), Shortest & Longest Ears, Best Dog Trick, and an Obstacle Course. Awards include ribbons and dog treats to all participants.
   — Art Festival (at the Queenstown Gallery): Come by and see the works of six area artists in the Queenstown Gallery parking lot (on Main Street) from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Works displayed will vary in scale, medium (paintings to ceramics), and price range, including works depicting local scenes. The six participating artists are: Livy Glaubitz, Susan Ewart, Lynn Ebeling, Kim Glock, Dorothy Dutko and Linda Bradshaw.
   — Student Art Show and content — Children can create artwork to express this year’s theme of Peace, Harmony and Community. All students, from pre-K through 12th grade, may participate.    — Community Health Screening: The Presbyterian Church will be sponsoring a Community Health Screening from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The screening is sponsored by the Older Adult Ministry and will be conducted by four local hospitals (University Medical Center at Princeton, St Francis Medical Center, Capital Health Systems and RWJ of Hamilton). Screening will include: Blood Pressure, Body Fat, Glucose, Pulmonary, Basic Cholesterol and Body Mass Index.
   — Pennington Day Entertainment (scheduled performances). Formerly held at Howe Commons, they will take place on South Main Street due to ongoing construction. Organized by Pete Labriola): Morning — 11:15, Pennington Station; Afternoon — 12:15, Mountain View; 1:15, Kindred Spirit; 2:15, Paul Plumeri Blues Band; 3:15, Browne Jenkyn (Celtic folk music).
   • Crossroads (corner of Main and Delaware), 10:30, Combined Toll Gate/Bear Tavern chorus groups; 11, HVCHS Jazz Band; noon, Pennington Dance; 1, Princeton School of Rock; 2, Pennington Players; 3, NJ Renaissance Kingdom.
   Children’s schedule — Excitement on North Main Street (organized by Eva Kaplan of Pennington Computer School, Computers and Kids), 11-noon "PhilaCapella"; noon-1, "FUNdamentals" (become a moving sculpture wearing jersey tubing in this interactive session; 2-3, "Dr Doz Band" (hit the drums or beat out a synthesized rhythm); 3-4, "Enchanted Listening" (hear stories told by Garden State Storytellers League).
   In the Pennington Borough Municipal Parking Lot (organized by Jill Murray), 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Obstacle Course & Gymnastics (all ages); 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., Tae Kwondo Demonstrations; noon, Pie Eating Contest; 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Karaoke.
   Children also can play with sidewalk chalk and matchbox cars in the parking lot.
