The Northern Burlington High girls’ varsity lacrosse team may not be going to the playoffs this season, which is a rarity, but Liz McGouth, has, nonetheless, put together a very formidable unit.
The player who will surely lead the Greyhounds in their future successes will be freshman phenom Lauren Pigott, who scored six goals and had an assist in NBC’s 17-2 road victory over Maple Shade this past Tuesday.
But Pigott was just one of many Greyhounds who were scoring at will against Maple Shade. In fact, Julia Logan, Kim Lebak (two assists), Brittlyn Gleeson and Morgan Pettit each had a pair of goals while Jamie Ireland (two assists), Kelly Brodowski and Amanda Bothwell scored a goal apiece. NBC took 30 shots to five shots by Maple Shade. Kristen Holden needed to stop just two shots to earn the win.
Last Friday the undefeated Holy Cross Lancers defeated NBC, 13-5, at Northern Burlington. Pigott, however, was brilliant and recorded a hat trick while Logan and K. Lebak each tallied a goal and Amanda Reed had Northern’s only assist of the contest. Holden made 16 saves in goal for NBC.
"Holy Cross had 36 shots while Northern Burlington had 13 shots," said McGouth, who basically told the story of the game with that one statement.
Delran, however, eliminated NBC from the playoffs with a 15-8 win over the Greyhounds last Wednesday. Pigott had two goals in that contest but it was not enough.
NBC (5-8) is scheduled at Lenape today. It would love to end the season with a big win.
