Dean W. Garwood, 83, of Monroe, died Wednesday, May 9, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold.
Born in Palmyra, he lived in Somerset, and 33 years in North Brunswick before moving to the Encore community in 2004.
He was employed for more than 25 years as a vocational education specialist for the state Department of Education, retiring in 1991. He received his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, and his master’s degree in education from New York University.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was a member of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge.
He was a past president of the North Brunswick Kiwanis Club.
He is survived by his wife, Ina Salerno Garwood; four daughters and son-in-laws, Barbara and Carlos Castro of Smyrna, Ga., Roberta and David Regnier of Nampa, Idaho, Janet and Mark Liss of Langhorne, Pa., and Andrea and Gilberto Lippi of Trieste, Italy; and five grandchildren, Rita and Ronnie Fields, and Sofia, Paris and Spencer Lippi.
Services were held Monday, May 14, at Lester Memorial Home, 16 W. Church St., Jamesburg, followed by a Funeral Liturgy at Nativity of Our Lord R.C. Church, Monroe Township. Entombment was at Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway.
