Sigrid Haller, 76, of Lawrenceville, died May 17 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
A soprano, she performed as part of the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus and the Westminster Choir, participating in concerts at Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall in New York and the Academy of Music in Philadelphia. She recently sang with the Hopewell Valley Chorus.
Mrs. Haller, who lived in Lawrenceville for 22 years, had immigrated to the United States with her husband, Kurt Haller, in 1956 from West Germany. Born in Berlin, she studied music at the University of Heidelberg and the Musikhochschule in Hamburg. Her love of music was inspired by her paternal grandfather, Richard Klinker, an organist and conductor in the region of Schleswig-Holstein, in northern Germany.
After settling in the Akron, Ohio, area she performed with choruses in Akron and Cleveland and at the Blossom Music Center. She also briefly taught music in the public schools, but made her biggest mark teaching piano to private students. Mrs. Haller continued to give piano lessons after she and her family moved to Lawrenceville in 1985.
She is survived by her husband, Kurt, an engineer; a brother, Dieter Klinker of Koblenz, Germany; three daughters, Karen Buttaro of Herndon, Va., Vera Haller of New York City, and Stephanie Haller of Marblehead, Mass.; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held May 24 at 11 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville, 2688 Main St., where she was a member.
