The Central Jersey Group of Sierra Club is keeping the Earth Day spirit alive and looking into the future with a lively "Green Night Celebration" on Wednesday, June 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the West Windsor Branch of the Mercer County Library on North Post Road at Clarksville Road.
This event, which closes the formal meeting program for the season, includes socializing around art, refreshments and door prizes.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a special outdoor photo, painting or art work (their own or another’s) of a greater Mercer scene for display during this meeting. If exhibitors bring easels or stands, so much the better. There will be no judging, just enjoyment of the works.
Environmental awareness, kindled for many people through the innovative ideas and practices championed at Earth Day events, was replaced with alarms raised in the media and elsewhere. The Sierra Club is dedicated to community action in support of the development of alternative and renewable fuels, enhanced energy security and increased employment among the expanding green industries.
Often implementation of new ideas requires legislative and community action. So the Sierra Club will distribute postcards, issue alerts and sample letters to the editor, legislators and candidates on topics including clean, affordable energy alternatives, energy independence and Highlands preservation.
During July and August the Central Jersey Sierra Group suspends Meetings, which resume in September. The summer calendar includes a stimulating agenda of outings, picnics, paddles, and walks. On July 28, the group will have a large get-together in Mercer County Park for kayaking/canoeing, picnicking, walking and geocaching.
