PTA thanks
Madeline Gavin
To the editor:
As we come to the close of the 2006-07 school year, we want to thank our fantastic interim superintendent, Madeline Gavin.
Mrs. Gavin came to Lambertville two years ago and, in a very short time, has enhanced our school.
She instituted a new schedule for the fourth, fifth and sixth grades, which has been a wonderful addition. We now have an active communication program with the parents through the "Wednesday Folder" and her "Report From the Superintendent."
In a very tight budget, she worked with the school board to preserve a strong curriculum to challenge our children. Her open door policy for parents, students and staff made everyone feel welcome.
She has been extremely supportive and provided numerous recommendations and implemented them to improve our school.
Thank you, Mrs. Gavin, for working with and supporting our very dedicated instructional and support staff and making these changes to benefit our children.
This is also a time to recognize a major milestone in our Lambertville-West Amwell communities. The two boards of education have come together and agreed to enter into a shared services agreement for Dr. Todd Fay to serve as the superintendent for both schools.
This change has numerous benefits for the children. First, the curriculum will now be more aligned so as the students entering South Hunterdon Regional High School will have covered the same material when entering seventh grade.
Although we are two separate towns, our children participate in sports and activities together, and now they will add the sharing of their education.
Finally, as we face tight budgets and look to enhance our resources, the sharing of services along many areas of education, programs and services will continue to be a benefit to both of our communities.
As we say goodbye and thank Mrs. Gavin, let us also welcome Dr. Fay to the great LPS community. We look forward to working with you in the new school year.

Fire company gave
birthday party
To the editor:
We would like to take this opportunity to extend our thanks to the Union Fire Company for the wonderful birthday party they had for our son, Ryan, who turned 5 June 1.
A special thank you to Nate Waldron and Robert Hayes for doing a terrific job taking 20 kids on a fire truck ride, letting them squirt the hoses and for providing the cake, pizza and other treats.
They went above and beyond what was expected, especially for taking the time from their personal lives to host the party.
These people cannot be thanked enough not only for the party, but also for dedicating themselves to their community.
Thanks again for a wonderful party we are sure Ryan will remember for a long time.

Thanks for support
in sheriff primary
To the editor:
I would like to thank every voter for their support in my successful bid to win the Republican nomination for sheriff and congratulate all candidates who participated in the primary election.
I especially would like to thank my family and friends for "putting up with me" during my months of campaigning door to door and for their tireless support and help, without which this victory would not have been possible!
I am also asking for the support of candidates George Muller, Tony Critelli and Gary Howell and thank them for all their past honorable service to the community.
A countywide political campaign is a difficult undertaking and an incredibly rewarding experience. I visited thousands of homes and met so many wonderful people. I am humbled and honored by this experience and I will work every day to earn your confidence and support!
