Robbinsville golf team shooting down right course

Because Robbinsville High has no senior class, all of its varsity sports teams were a bit on the young side this season. Yet no Ravens’ team was younger than the Robbinsville coed varsity golf squad, with no seniors or juniors on it this year. Nonetheless, the Ravens’ top golfer, Sean Nemazie, looks like he will be very good in the future.
"We struggled this year, but were continually improving. Our number one was Sean Nemazie, who was our most consistent golfer and set a school record with a 41 this year at Princeton Country Club," said Robbinsville head coed varsity golf coach Rich Gildner.
Gildner was also very pleased to see his second best golfer, Jay Rubenstein, trim 7 strokes off his average from last season during the course of this year.
"Number three for us was Frosh Chris Woidill, who was up and down all year but showed potential to be very competitive in the county. Number four was Mike Lorenzo. Mike worked very hard this year and should look to have his average drop under 50 next year," said Gildner.
Part of Robbinsville’s problems this season stemmed from trying to find the right golfers to fill the 5th and 6th slots in the lineup each match.
"Included in the shuffle were Dan Orlak, Andrew Stevens, Angie Zarko, Charlie Johnston, Steve Giardinelli, Ian Suaco and Wes Hart. Coming on strong late in the year was Charlie Johnston, who placed 4th at the MCT Novice Tournament shooting a round of 46," Gildner noted.
Gildner knew this year was going to be a tough one going in, but he also knows that with such a young team, the room for improvement is great.
"Things were rough this year, but are only looking bright for the future. This is a squad that returns every member not only next year but for the following year as well. I am looking forward to seeing more improvements and a more competitive squad next year," said Gildner, who knows how to build a team.
This past winter, Gildner coached Robbinsville’s varsity wrestling team, which struggled in the beginning of the year but came on strong later in the season. He’s patient and he knows what he’s doing. So it’s just a matter of time before the Robbinsville golf program turns into a very competitive and winning one.
