Richard G. Poole Sr.
Taught French at PDS
MONTGOMERY Richard G. Poole Sr. died Wednesday at home in Stonebridge at Montgomery. He was 88.
Born in Lake Forest, Ill., Mr. Poole was a longtime Princeton resident before moving to Stonebridge.
He was a French teacher at Princeton Day School and was also a hockey and tennis coach there.
Earlier in his career he was employed by AMAX in New York City and Rome Cable Co. in Rome, N.Y.
He attended The Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Conn., and earned a bachelor’s degree in geology at Princeton University where he played ice hockey on the championship 1941 team. He was awarded the William B. Blackwell Cup as the player who in sportsmanship and influence most contributed to the sport.
Following graduation, he served as a Navy ensign in World War II, working in the interior of China for Naval Intelligence.
He and his wife raised their children in Clinton, N.Y. and then moved to Grenoble, France where he began studying for his next career as a French teacher.
He enjoyed golf, tennis, hunting, fly fishing and skiing.
He was a member of the Nassau Club, Bedens Brook Club, Pretty Brook Club and the Nassau Gun Club. He served on the board of The Experiment in International Living, The Adirondack Museum, Sterling College and the Langeloth Foundation.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann Poole; daughter Kathrin Poole of Princeton and Hong Kong; sons Richard Poole Jr. of Dekalb, Ill., Peter Poole of Rochester, N.H. and Walter Poole of Phnom Phen, Cambodia; and eight grandchildren.
He will be buried in Blue Mountain Lake, N.Y., in the Adirondack Mountains where he spent much time with family and friends.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. July 9 at Princeton University Chapel.

Lindsay S. Jacob
Hun graduate, PU student
WASHINGTON CROSSING, Pa. Lindsay S. Jacob died Friday at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She was 21.
Born in White Plains, N.Y., she was a former Greenwich, Conn., resident.
Miss Jacob was a graduate of The Hun School of Princeton where she was a Merit Scholarship finalist, was named Donaldson Scholar in her senior year and was a speaker at her commencement. She played varsity soccer.
She was a comparative literature major at Princeton University and had completed her junior year. She was a member of the equestrian team.
She is survived by her parents, Stuart and Laurie Jacob of Washington Crossing; sister Jennifer Jacob; paternal grandmother Blanca Jacob; and maternal grandparents Sheila Engel and Michael Rosenblatt.
The funeral was Sunday at Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, Ewing.

Donival Brown Jr.
Liturgical music expert
TRENTON Donival Brown Jr. died June 5 at Capital Health System at Mercer in Trenton. He was 48.
Born in Hahira, Ga., he lived in Paterson and in Trenton.
An expert in liturgical music, he sang at many weddings, funerals and other religious events in the Princeton area.
He earned an undergraduate degree at Westminster Choir College, received his master’s degree in choral conducting at The College of New Jersey and had begun his doctoral studies at Philadelphia Bible College.
Mr. Brown was the director of music for the Roman Catholic Parish of Our Lady of Sorrows in Hamilton for 15 years. He continued in this liturgical ministry after the establishment of Our Lady of Sorrows-Saint Anthony parish in 2005.
He served as a member of the Diocesan Liturgical Commission for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Trenton and the executive board of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians, Trenton Chapter.
Mr. Brown was also a teacher and a presenter of workshops, training cantors, organists, and pianists in liturgical music.
He is survived by his parents, Donival and Geneva Brown of Adel, Ga.; sisters and brothers-in-law Teresa and Daniel O’Cain of Stone Mountain, Ga. and Alisa and Frank Aponte-Wilkins of Trenton; brothers and sisters-in-law Oliver and Layette Brown of Hillside and Larry and April Brown of Philadelphia; four uncles and aunts; seven nieces and nephews; and devoted friends Elizabeth Hartnett and David Reiters.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated 7 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 3816 East State St. Extension, Hamilton. A reception will follow the Mass in the school cafeteria.

Britt Guzik
Griggstown resident
FRANKLIN Britt Guzik died Thursday at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick of heart failure. She was 63.
Born in Varnamo, Sweden, she was a resident of the Griggstown section of Franklin Township for 37 years.
She was a member of various Swedish organizations including the Swedish churches of Philadelphia and New York, the New Jersey chapter of SWEA and the American Swedish Historical Museum. She was the recipient of a liver transplant seven years ago and was an advocate for organ donation.
Daughter of Anna and Oscar Johansson, she is survived by her husband of 39 years, Mike Guzik; son and daughter-in-law Peter and Alexandra M. Guzik; granddaughter Sophia M. Guzik of Robbinsville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Tamara and John Bliss of Newton Mass.; nephew Steven Bliss of Los Angeles; niece Mimi Bliss of Nashville, Tenn.; and niece Lisette Karlsson of Gothenburg, Sweden.
She instructed that there be no funeral or memorial service.
