When two towns join forces to put together a District 12 all-star softball squad, usually all but one or two of the kids will come from just one of those towns. However, the 2007 Millstone-Roosevelt-East Windsor 12-year-old Little League All-Star softball team will have five Millstone-Roosevelt kids and five East Windsor kids on its final roster.
"I wish I had a couple of months with them to get the team to jell together," said David Dominici, the team’s manager, who coached the Millstone-Roosevelt kids as 10-year old all-stars. "It’s not too bad (drawing from two areas), but there’s so much going on right now (with various sports and travel ball) and you couldn’t have a tryout until June 15th."
Nevertheless, Dominici has a core group of girls who’ve played together on U-12 travel softball teams for years and years. The players from East Windsor are Marissa DeVito (pitcher/infielder), Randi Kosmides (pitcher/catcher/outfielder), Sarah Marion (pitcher/catcher/outfielder), Kammie Klein (infield/outfield) and Kelsey Brennan (infield/outfield). Meanwhile the Millstone-Roosevelt players are Nikole Lugo (catcher/outfield), Alex Dominici (pitcher/infield), Emily Marr (catcher/outfield), Kristina Kinsey (pitcher/ infield) and Evalyse Pallante (outfield). It’s a very young team and Pallante and Brennan are the only actual 12-year-olds on the roster.
"I think our biggest goal is for them to enjoy the tournament because most of them are only 11," added Dominici, who has four pitchers he can use at any time. "They seem to be motivated. I hope for them to play good sound softball. I think we’ll be a contact hitting team."
While Dominici lacks the big bopper in his batting order, his club should score runs by stringing together walks and singles. Dominici’s father Peter will be his assistant coach. However, Chris Romano and Steve Geis have lent a hand with the team’s most recent practices.
