Bill lists now posted
To the editor:
After many months of requests and inquiries to the Township Council, the lists monthly of bills paid by Washington Township are now openly posted for public review and scrutiny on the second floor of the Municipal Building, 1 Washington Boulevard.
This public disclosure of expenditures brings to the forefront what we as Washington Township taxpayers are paying for. It is one step further in reversing what appears to be the pattern of secrecy of where our tax dollars are going.
I encourage residents to view the lists of bills and question the Township Council about any concerns you may have. You as a taxpayer have a right to an explanation. It is the Township Council that ultimately approves these payments. Township Council meeting dates, agendas and minutes can be obtained by accessing the Washington Township Web site, www.washington-twp.org.

Trail plan means recreation space
To the editor:
At a recent public meeting, The Crosswicks Creek / Doctors Creek Regional Greenway Planning Group presented its findings for the Doctors Creek to Assunpink Creek Trail Feasibility study. The project was funded by matching grants from state Department of Environmental Protection and four municipalities Allentown, Hamilton, Millstone and Upper Freehold. According to the group’s Web page, "This study is ultimately to determine the feasibility of the creation of a trail system along the Doctors Creek beginning at the confluence of the Doctors and Crosswicks Creeks in Hamilton Township and connecting to the existing trail system in the southern portion of the Assunpink Wildlife Management Area."
Spanning several years and countless hours, the dedicated volunteer effort by residents of Allentown and surrounding communities has resulted in a trail plan that could provide area residents with a substantial recreational resource. Although not ideal, due to limitations imposed by laws, terrain, and present infrastructure, implementation of the proposed recreational trail would be a win for area residents. For details of the study, please visit http://www.ccdcgreenway.org.
It was disappointing to see that none of the area’s municipal officials attended the meeting. These volunteers have worked very hard and their efforts should be recognized. I would hope that the lack of any area municipal official’s attendance was one of oversight and not ambivalence toward this worthwhile endeavor.
