The Brick Township Recreation Department has assembled a diverse schedule of activities for Brick Township residents to enjoy this summer including camps, music, arts and crafts, yoga, tumbling, swimming programs, sports and much more. Registration is currently underway.
A wide range of early childhood programs will be offered for children as young as age 1 including “Mommy and Me,” “First Time on My Own” and “Pre-school Playgroup.” Dates vary and times are generally weekday mornings with one Saturday session of Mommy and Me. Other programs for young children will include “Dancing Bears Music,” “Itsy Bitsy Yoga” and a tumbling program on the Fun Bus. For children in grades one through six there will be three one-week “KidzArt” camps, along with “Hip Hop Dance” for juniors ages 7-10 and teens ages 11-15 and “Yoga Mates,” a yoga class for boys and girls ages 5-12. Dates, times and fees vary depending on the program.
The Brick Recreation Department sponsors the Barracuda Swim Team for children age 5 to 14. Currently in its 14th season, this competitive program includes daily practices with continuous swimming and participation in meets throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties. Practices are age appropriate and all swimmers must meet minimum requirements or they will be referred to an instructional program. The cost is $85 per child.
The Junior Lifeguard, a five-day course, open to Brick residents ages 10-15, is designed to provide students with a sound aquatic background and the skills needed to become an ocean lifeguard one day. Students will undergo professional surf training and daily team relays involving surfboard paddling, swimming, running and beach flags. Additionally, students will be instructed in the basics of first aid and CPR, although no certification will be given. Enrollment is limited and the fee is $85.
Playground camp will be offered July 5 through Aug. 10 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Windward Beach for Brick children ages 5-12. Activities include arts and crafts, games and organized sports. Trips are offered first come, first serve, for an additional charge. Fee for full session is $100. Fee for 12 days is $50.
The Brick Township Police Department will offer a two-week youth camp for children ages 10 to 13. Activities include physical training, handcuffing techniques, police baton training, K-9 interaction, bike unit training and obstacle course, motor vehicle stops and accident investigation as well as trips to other police agencies and a graduation ceremony. Campers must be able to perform rigorous physical activities and adhere to a strict disciplinary code. Swim lessons will be offered this year for residents ages 2-12 in the pool at the Maple Leaf Condominium Complex, Herbertsville Road in the late afternoon and early evening. Each session consists of one-hour lessons on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of two consecutive weeks for a total of six hours of instruction. Two sessions will be offered with times from 4 to 7 p.m. The cost is $85 per session per child. There is a maximum enrollment of 25 students and sessions are filled on a first come, first serve basis. Brick residents are also invited to participate in open community swim on Tuesday evenings from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Maple Leaf Condominium Complex July 10-31. Children under age 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. There is no charge for community swim.
Golf and tennis instruction will be offered with both morning and evening sessions available. Specialized sports camps and clinics in lacrosse, soccer, baseball, girls softball, surfing and skateboarding will also be available. U.S. Sports Institute’s Multi-sport camp for ages 6-14 and Sports Squirts camp for ages 3-5 will be offered at the Drum Point Sports Complex July 16-20. Children will experience more than 15 different sports in one week with the opportunity to play and compete in a variety of sports from around the world. Fees vary.
Sign-ups will also begin for the outdoor summer basketball league for Brick boys and girls in grades 5-8 as well as a high school boys division for grades 9-11. Games are played on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at various township parks from June 25 through July 27. The program is limited to 200 participants and the fee is $60 per child.
This year the Brick Recreation Department will also offer a series of bus trips to major league baseball games- July 18 (New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays in New York) and Sept. 21 (New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays in New York). The cost for the Mets trip is $55 per person. Yankee games are $45 per person.
Season beach badges and season parking permits are now available for sale in the Brick Recreation office, 270 Chambers Bridge Road, and are available for purchase at Beach I and Beach III. The price for season badges is $20 for Brick residents and $30 for nonresidents. The price for season parking is $30 for Brick residents and $40 for nonresidents. Daily badges and daily parking may be purchased at Ocean Beach I and III for the cost of $5 each per badge or permit.
With the exception of Police Camp, all program registrations as well as season beach badge sales, are held in the Recreation department office located in Civic Plaza, 270 Chambers Bridge Road.
